Installs each of libcuopt-client, libcuopt-mathopt and libcuopt-routing on its own (wheel and conda), checks that no other cuOpt package is pulled in, then builds and runs a small C++ consumer via find_package(cuopt) + cuopt::<component>.

  • ci/split_package_smoke/: consumer project (routing TSP, mathopt LP, client load check)
  • ci/test_{wheel,conda}_split_packages.sh: per-package env + test
  • test.yaml: new nightly-only jobs conda-split-package-tests and wheel-split-package-tests

Validated locally against the published nightlies; the CI wiring has not run yet.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Install each of libcuopt-client, libcuopt-mathopt and libcuopt-routing
alone (wheel and conda) and build and run a C++ consumer against it.

Build the mathopt smoke test from the existing C API docs example instead of a
duplicate source file, and drop the local-testing override variables.

📝 Walkthrough

Nightly CI adds separate Conda and wheel jobs for split-package tests. The scripts install component packages in isolated environments, check installed package names, and build and run component-specific CMake smoke consumers.

Changes: Split-package CI

Layer / File(s) Summary
Component consumer smoke tests
ci/split_package_smoke/CMakeLists.txt, ci/split_package_smoke/*.cpp, ci/split_package_smoke/build_and_run.sh
The CMake project validates the selected component, links its target, and builds a smoke executable. It selects the documented C example for mathopt and uses dedicated C++ smoke sources for client and routing. The script configures, builds, and runs the executable.
Package checks and test runners
ci/split_package_smoke/env_check.py, ci/test_conda_split_packages.sh, ci/test_wheel_split_packages.sh
The environment checker compares installed package names with expected names and reports CMake prefixes. The Conda and wheel scripts test each component in an isolated environment, run its smoke consumer, and report failures.
Nightly workflow integration
.github/workflows/test.yaml
The workflow adds nightly Conda and wheel split-package jobs and includes both in the nightly summary job’s dependencies.

Priority: ➖ Normal

Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes

Change: Other

Possibly related issues

  • The issue asks for an isolation guarantee in installed-wheel CI. This PR adds installed-wheel smoke jobs that resolve installed wheel metadata, but the consumer is built from the checkout, so the change does not establish full isolation.

Suggested reviewers: tmckayus, jameslamb

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 26b6b

The nightly split-package jobs are wired to install and exercise each component, with no concrete merge-blocking issue established.

- Line 43: Update the Conda component-check loop so failures inside the subshell
cannot be masked by a later successful command: disable errexit in the parent
before the subshell, enable it inside the subshell containing env_check.py and
build_and_run.sh, then capture the subshell status, restore errexit, and add the
component to FAILED when that status is nonzero.

Review comments at @ci/test_wheel_split_packages.sh:
- Line 50: Update the wheel-test subshell whose failure currently feeds
`FAILED+=` through `||`: ensure `errexit` is active inside the subshell,
temporarily disable it for the outer invocation so the status can be captured,
then restore it and add the component to `FAILED` when that status is nonzero.
This must stop later smoke-test commands from masking an earlier failure.

Run each component in a subshell with errexit on and read its status instead of
chaining it with ||, which ignored errexit and kept only the last command's result.

Let's scope the set +e's to just the blocks that install the environment, check the packages, and run the smoke tests. Same in the other script.
