Choose Databend as the connection type. A connection saved as MySQL that reaches a Databend server fails at connect and asks for the type to be changed. Port 8000 is Databend's HTTP API and does not connect.

Quick setup

A local server in Docker, with the handler on 3307:

docker run -d -p 3307:3307 datafuselabs/databend

Connect as root with an empty password and database default. Set QUERY_DEFAULT_USER and QUERY_DEFAULT_PASSWORD on the container to change them.

Host, user, password, SSH tunnels and Cmd+K database switching work as on MySQL. No minimum Databend version is enforced.

Connection URL

No URL scheme opens a Databend connection, and databend:// URLs, which point at the HTTP API, do not open one either. Create the connection in the form. Copy Connection String gives a mysql:// URL for the MySQL handler, which other MySQL clients accept.

Databend Cloud

The MySQL endpoint of a Databend Cloud warehouse is off by default. Ask Databend support to turn it on, then copy the host and port from the warehouse's Connect dialog.

Editing rows

Databend tables have no primary keys, so a row edit or delete matches on every column of the row. ARRAY, MAP, TUPLE, VARIANT, JSON, BITMAP, BINARY, GEOMETRY, GEOGRAPHY and VECTOR columns are left out of that match. A save that would change more than one row is refused and rolled back; add a column that tells the rows apart, or run the statement in the editor.

ARRAY, MAP and TUPLE cells cannot be written from text. Change them with an UPDATE in the SQL editor.

Limitations

  • The sidebar hides system and information_schema.
  • No indexes, primary keys or foreign keys. The Structure tab edits columns and CHECK constraints and renames tables, views and columns; column reordering, AUTO_INCREMENT, charset and collation are not offered.
  • No Users & Roles, Server Dashboard, triggers, routines or events. File > Backup Dump… stays dimmed.
  • Create Database takes a name only. Table Maintenance offers ANALYZE TABLE only.
  • EXPLAIN and EXPLAIN ANALYZE show the plan as text, not as a plan tree.
  • Compare & Sync is not available.
  • The SQL editor splits statements without backslash escapes, so write a quote inside a string as '' rather than \'.
  • Not available on iPhone and iPad. A synced Databend connection appears in the list there but does not open.
