classification.yml

# Subject and method classification, one entry per article.
#
# Terms must appear in vocabulary.yml; `pixi run validate` rejects anything
# else. This lives outside `articles/`, which is regenerated by
# `pixi run migrate`, so classifying an article is not undone by re-running the
# conversion.
#
# Assigned from measured term frequencies (`pixi run vocabulary`) and then read.
# The measurement proposes; it does not decide. In particular "rheology" scores
# on almost every article because viscosity is the standard worked example --
# it is only recorded where the article is *about* material behaviour.
#
# The subject axis is sparse, and that is the honest state: these eleven notes
# are about the machinery, not about an Earth process. It will fill out as the
# older science posts are migrated. An empty subject list is a valid answer and
# better than a decorative one.

# ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
# The migrated backlog, 2014-2025, oldest first.
#
# The subject axis is no longer empty. The note above was written when the
# corpus was eleven articles about the machinery; the older material is where
# the science is, and cratons, delamination, shear bands and convection have
# arrived with it. The method axis, by contrast, thins out: much of the backlog
# is installation and release news, which is about the software rather than
# about a technique, and an empty list is the honest answer there.
#
# `article_type` matters more here than anywhere else, because it governs which
# notes get a DOI. Rogue Scholar minted for everything it ingested, so several
# of the release notes and announcements below already carry one. That is not
# retrospectively fixable; the type recorded here is what the article IS, and
# the minting policy applies from now on.

# Reclassified from commentary. It is a history of how this codebase came to

# development note in the most literal sense, and load-bearing enough to
# deserve an archival rendition. "Commentary" is reserved for pieces
