Ability to change css color of sub menu

I was wondering if there was a way to change the color of the sub menu list that would be different from the main level menu.  It appears that the css overlays the .dl-menuwrapper li a style on top of the submenu item so it all remains the same style.   If anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated!
