From 6ef218ee7c98f7213cdfa09f5442729ddd9a1a92 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Jared Rickert Date: Mon, 28 Sep 2026 01:04:18 -0500 Subject: [PATCH 1/6] perf(keg): resolve listing fields in one batch instead of per node A formatted grep, links, backlinks, or tags listing against a Hub keg read metadata once per rendered node, so one agent grep could make hundreds of sequential requests. Fields are now resolved where the data lives: - GrepOptions gains fields, offset, and limit; the keg pages matches and projects fields, so a formatted grep is one request. - ListViewOptions gains node_ids, so any known result set resolves its fields with one listing call. - RelatedNodes returns the pairs that produced each entry, replacing the per-input lookups the relationship observer made. - An optional RepositoryContentScan capability lets a backend answer grep in one scan, narrowed by an index when the pattern is a plain literal. - pkg/tapapi defines the wire contract for complete TAP operations a Hub executes under /api/v1/tap/*. - The client-side listing fallback for hubs without /list/view is removed, and the REST contract revision moves to 2026-09-28. --- docs/api-compatibility.md | 10 +- docs/output-formats.md | 15 +- pkg/apicontract/contract.go | 2 +- pkg/apicontract/contract_test.go | 4 +- pkg/keg/format_fields.go | 2 +- pkg/keg/keg_aggregate.go | 49 ++++- pkg/keg/keg_aggregate_test.go | 3 +- pkg/keg/keg_grep_projection_test.go | 127 ++++++++++++ pkg/keg/keg_iface.go | 22 ++- pkg/keg/keg_query.go | 74 ++++++- pkg/keg/keg_remote.go | 22 +-- pkg/keg/keg_remote_aggregate.go | 26 +-- pkg/keg/keg_remote_listview_test.go | 16 -- pkg/keg/orientation_test.go | 2 +- pkg/keg/repository.go | 12 ++ pkg/mcp/tools_read.go | 10 +- pkg/tapapi/tapapi.go | 84 ++++++++ pkg/tapper/invocation_telemetry_test.go | 2 +- pkg/tapper/relationship_observer_test.go | 34 ++-- pkg/tapper/tap_list.go | 241 ++++++++--------------- pkg/tapper/tap_list_format.go | 9 +- pkg/tapper/tap_list_format_test.go | 21 +- pkg/tapper/tap_list_requests_test.go | 124 ++++++++++++ 23 files changed, 648 insertions(+), 263 deletions(-) create mode 100644 pkg/keg/keg_grep_projection_test.go create mode 100644 pkg/tapapi/tapapi.go create mode 100644 pkg/tapper/tap_list_requests_test.go diff --git a/docs/api-compatibility.md b/docs/api-compatibility.md index a45eeced..fefbf854 100644 --- a/docs/api-compatibility.md +++ b/docs/api-compatibility.md @@ -1,7 +1,7 @@ # REST API contract compatibility Tapper and Tapper Hub select a REST contract independently of their release -numbers. Route every call through its replacement so those routes can go: - Move is a batch of one on POST /nodes/move. - RestoreSnapshot is a batch of one on POST /nodes/snapshots/restore, guarded by the hash from the node's metadata ETag. - File and image calls use the kind-qualified attachment routes. - RemoveBatch adapts POST /nodes/remove, the Hub's single removal contract; it previously expected a response shape the Hub never sent. Batch restore now accepts the root node, which can be restored from its own history; move and remove still refuse it. --- pkg/keg/keg_remote.go | 123 ++++++++++++++++------------- pkg/keg/keg_remote_test.go | 13 +-- pkg/keg/surface_batch.go | 34 ++++++-- pkg/keg/surface_batch_root_test.go | 40 ++++++++++ 4 files changed, 140 insertions(+), 70 deletions(-) create mode 100644 pkg/keg/surface_batch_root_test.go diff --git a/pkg/keg/keg_remote.go b/pkg/keg/keg_remote.go index 35a69db0..403d774d 100644 --- a/pkg/keg/keg_remote.go +++ b/pkg/keg/keg_remote.go @@ -558,20 +558,16 @@ func parseRewritten(paths []string) ([]NodeId, error) { return out, nil } -// Move implements Keg via POST /nodes/{src}/move. +// Move implements Keg as a batch-of-one call to POST /nodes/move. func (k *RemoteKeg) Move(ctx context.Context, opts NodeMoveOptions) ([]NodeId, error) { - The scan is narrowed by every substring a match must contain, taken from the parsed regular expression, so an index can serve regex patterns and not just plain literals. Case-insensitive substrings are limited to ASCII and split at 's' so a lowercase comparison never drops a match Go's case folding would find. ReadNodes gains meta_only: metadata and stats in one consistent read, without content or asset lists, for rendering metadata fields. --- pkg/keg/keg_aggregate.go | 15 ++- pkg/keg/keg_aggregate_test.go | 24 +++++ pkg/keg/keg_grep_projection_test.go | 76 +++++++++++---- pkg/keg/keg_local_view.go | 43 +++++++++ pkg/keg/keg_query.go | 145 +++++++++++++++++++++++----- pkg/keg/keg_remote_aggregate.go | 9 +- pkg/keg/repository.go | 21 ++-- 7 files changed, 275 insertions(+), 58 deletions(-) diff --git a/pkg/keg/keg_aggregate.go b/pkg/keg/keg_aggregate.go index 2130d83f..28a755a2 100644 --- a/pkg/keg/keg_aggregate.go +++ b/pkg/keg/keg_aggregate.go @@ -87,6 +87,12 @@ type ReadNodesOptions struct { NodeIDs []NodeId `json:"node_ids,omitempty"` Query string `json:"query,omitempty"` Touch bool `json:"touch,omitempty"` + // MetaOnly reads each node's metadata and stats without its content or + // asset lists, in the same consistent read, so a listing that renders + // metadata fields never loads bodies. The backend owns its regex dialect and reports a pattern it cannot evaluate as invalid; local KEGs keep Go's RE2 matcher. This replaces the content-scan capability and its substring extraction. The node_search tool now says which dialect applies: Go RE2 locally, PostgreSQL regular expressions on a Hub. --- pkg/keg/keg_grep_projection_test.go | 92 ++++++-------- pkg/keg/keg_query.go | 188 +++++++--------------------- pkg/keg/repository.go | 31 ++--- pkg/mcp/tools_read.go | 2 +- 4 files changed, 101 insertions(+), 212 deletions(-) diff --git a/pkg/keg/keg_grep_projection_test.go b/pkg/keg/keg_grep_projection_test.go index a0c517b2..2e6e670d 100644 --- a/pkg/keg/keg_grep_projection_test.go +++ b/pkg/keg/keg_grep_projection_test.go @@ -2,6 +2,8 @@ package keg_test import ( "context" + "fmt" + "regexp" "strings" "testing" @@ -68,15 +70,24 @@ func TestListViewRestrictsToNodeIDs(t *testing.T) { require.Equal(t, 2, view.TotalMatches) } -// scanRepo implements the optional content scan the way an index-backed -// store would: the filter's substrings narrow the scan, compared with a -// lowercase fold like SQL ILIKE rather than Go's case folding. -type scanRepo struct { +// grepRepo greps content itself, as a database backend would.
