Summary

Configures OLMv0 TLS curve preferences from the OpenShift cluster APIServer TLS security profile.

  • Propagates configured TLS groups to dynamic OLM API server TLS configs.
  • Applies curve preferences to package-server secure serving options.
  • Preserves explicit tls-curve-preferences values.
  • Filters curve preferences to the FIPS-approved P-curves when Go FIPS mode is enabled.

Relates to OPRUN-4798.

Testing

Not run (not requested).

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • TLS security profiles now include curve preferences alongside minimum TLS versions and cipher suites.
    • Profile curve preferences are applied to serving settings when none are explicitly configured, while user-supplied preferences remain unchanged.
    • In FIPS 140 mode, curve preferences are limited to approved options.
    • Curve preferences are synchronized across API and package servers, and secure defaults fill them in when unset.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Configuration updates now detect changes to curve preferences, and removing a profile resets them to secure defaults.

📝 Walkthrough

TLS security profile processing now returns curve preferences with the minimum TLS version and cipher suites. The API server synchronizes these preferences. The package server applies them when serving options do not specify them.

Changes: TLS Curve Preferences

Layer / File(s) Summary
Extract curve preferences from TLS profiles
pkg/lib/apiserver/tlsconfig.go, pkg/lib/apiserver/querier.go, pkg/lib/apiserver/tlsconfig_test.go
GetSecurityProfileConfig returns curve IDs, logs unsupported groups, and retains only P-256, P-384, and P-521 when FIPS 140 mode is enabled. ApplySecureDefaults fills empty curve preferences. Documentation and tests cover the additional return value and default.
Synchronize API server curve preferences
pkg/lib/apiserver/syncer.go, pkg/lib/apiserver/syncer_test.go
The API server TLS cache stores and copies curve preferences, checks for changes in their count and order, and resets them to secure defaults on deletion.
Apply curve preferences to package server TLS options
pkg/package-server/server/server.go, pkg/package-server/server/server_test.go
The package server applies profile curve preferences when serving options do not specify them. The application log and tests include curve preferences.

🟡 Minor · Unwrap informer tombstones before resetting the TLS configuration. · syncer.go:202-215

pkg/lib/apiserver/syncer.go:202-215
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Unwrap informer tombstones before resetting the TLS configuration.

RegisterEventHandlers passes APIServer informer deletions to HandleAPIServerDelete. The informer can pass a cache.DeletedFinalStateUnknown tombstone. The current type assertion rejects that tombstone and returns before GetSecurityProfileConfig(nil). Later API-server TLS queries can retain the deleted profile's CurvePreferences instead of using the Intermediate defaults.

🟡 Minor · Load the cluster TLS profile when any serving field is unset. · server.go:225-235

pkg/package-server/server/server.go:225-235
🔒 Security & Privacy | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Load the cluster TLS profile when any serving field is unset.

When MinTLSVersion is set but CurvePreferences is empty, the current gate skips applyClusterTLSProfile. The server then keeps an empty curve list, so Kubernetes uses Go's default curves instead of the cluster profile.

olmapiserver.GetSecurityProfileConfig() is called by_applyClusterTLSProfileWithClients()_ which in turn is called only via applyClusterTLSProfile().
applyClusterTLSProfile() is guarded by if o.SecureServing.MinTLSVersion == "": so when --tls-min-version is set, packageserver never fetches the APIServer profile and leaves CurvePreferences empty, using Go’s default groups instead of the cluster allowlist.

This issue (getting olmapiserver.GetSecurityProfileConfig() in the call stack only when --tls-min-version is not set) predates this PR and could be addressed in a separate PR (if worth it).
