Five commits against the logs view, from oldest to newest.

CSV export (78a881f)

Exports the whole current filtered result set, not just the visible page, by paging the search endpoint at its max limit of 1000. The upper time bound is pinned at click time so rows ingested mid-export cannot shift the offset pagination and cause duplicates or gaps.

A dialog reports the matched row count and an estimated file size before any fetching, warns above 10,000 rows, and blocks above 500,000 with a prompt to narrow the filters. Exporting the current page only stays available at any size. Progress is shown live and Cancel aborts the in-flight request.

Columns follow the current column selection, including metadata columns, plus an optional full-metadata JSON column. Output is UTF-8 with a BOM, CRLF, fully quoted. Values starting with =, +, -, @, tab or CR get a leading apostrophe so a log message cannot execute as a formula when the file is opened in Excel; plain numbers are left numeric.

Per-row metadata copy (a6d57cb)

Removes the Copy Table button, which only ever copied the current page and was misleading once you had more than one. Replaced with a copy button in the Metadata column that yields that row's metadata as pretty-printed JSON.

Viewport-filling table (3097ab6)

The header previously consumed roughly 350px before the first data row: a title row, a card holding seven always-visible filter inputs across two rows, and a button row.

That collapses to a single 52px command bar. The six secondary filters move into a popover, and whatever is actually set renders as removable level:error / source:cron chips in a rail that does not exist at all when no filters are set, so empty filters cost zero vertical space.

The sidebar takes over branding, navigation and the account menu (with the signed-in user pinned to the bottom), which frees the app bar to carry the page title and live entry count. Views publish their heading through a small reactive pageHeader, with a route-derived fallback.

The table now fills the viewport with a sticky header and internal scrolling, at compact density. Height is opt-in per route via meta: { fullBleed: true }, so every other view keeps normal page scrolling.

Table cells switch to a system monospace stack with tabular numerals so columns of ids and timestamps align for scanning; chrome stays sans. No new font dependency. Timestamps become 2026-08-27 10:00:00, fixed-width and one line, where the locale format had been wrapping to two lines and doubling every row's height.

Also fixes a pre-existing bug: applying a filter now resets to page 1, where searching from page 7 previously handed you page 7 of the new result set.

Refresh and clear-filters (3e0d314)

A refresh button that refetches the current page with the current filters, keeping your page position. The filter count chip becomes closable to clear every filter at once without opening the menu.

Live log streaming (5c6d4fc)

A Live toggle that tails new logs over Server-Sent Events, respecting the currently selected filters.

Transport. SSE rather than WebSocket, since the data only flows server to client. The client uses fetch + ReadableStream rather than EventSource so the request can carry an Authorization header and refresh it on 401. EventSource cannot set headers, and the usual workaround puts the JWT in the query string where it lands in proxy logs.

Push source. Postgres LISTEN/NOTIFY, so it keeps working across multiple workers or containers rather than relying on an in-process bus. One shared LISTEN connection per process fans out to per-subscriber events, rather than one connection per client.

Why the notification carries only a team id. Payloads cap at 8000 bytes and a single log can be far larger. Subscribers therefore re-query for rows past their own keyset cursor instead of reading the row off the wire, which means the stream reuses the search filters verbatim. build_log_query() is now shared by search and stream so the two cannot drift.

The cursor is id, not timestamp: ingest accepts client-supplied timestamps, so a timestamp cursor would silently drop backdated rows. Queries ride the existing idx_logs_team_id_id index and partition pruning. pg_notify fires once per ingest request rather than per row, so a 1000-log batch costs one notification, and there is no table trigger.

Client behaviour. Reconnects with exponential backoff resume from the newest row held, so no gap and no duplicates. Arriving logs batch on a 120ms timer so a burst re-renders once. If you are at the head the view stays pinned there; if you have scrolled away it holds your reading position by compensating for the inserted height and offers a jump-to-latest pill. The list caps at 500 rows. Live forces page 1, disables itself if you page away, and restarts when filters change.

Degradation. If the LISTEN connection cannot be established, subscribers still re-query on their 15s heartbeat, so the stream falls back to slow polling rather than silently delivering nothing. A 403, 404 or 422 is treated as permanent and stops the retry loop, so an older backend without the endpoint does not cause a retry storm.

asyncpg becomes an explicit dependency. It was already present transitively via tortoise-orm[asyncpg], but this code imports it directly. No migration required.

Testing notes

The frontend is verified in a browser against a live backend. The SSE endpoint is compile-checked and statically reviewed but has not been executed.

UI

The UI looks like this when finished.

Marlin Petre added 5 commits August 27, 2026 15:32
Pages the whole filtered result set, warns above 10k rows and blocks above 500k.
Copy Table only covered the current page, which the CSV export now handles.
Filters collapse into a popover with a chip rail for what is actually set, and
the sidebar takes over branding, nav and the account menu so the app bar can
carry the page title. VITE_API_TARGET points the dev proxy at a remote backend.
NOTIFY carries only the team id, so subscribers re-query past their own cursor
using the same filters as search. That keeps the live feed filtered and stays
under the 8000-byte notification payload cap.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The change adds PostgreSQL-backed log streaming through an SSE API, an authenticated frontend stream client, live log updates, expanded filtering, CSV export, and a redesigned application shell with full-bleed log routing.

Changes

Logs workspace

Layer / File(s) Summary
PostgreSQL log notification service
backend/requirements.txt, backend/app/services/logstream.py, backend/app/main.py
The backend adds asyncpg, publishes team-specific PostgreSQL notifications, routes them to subscribers, and closes the listener during shutdown.
Ingest notifications and SSE endpoint
backend/app/api/ingest.py, backend/app/api/logs.py
Log ingestion publishes notifications. Shared query construction centralizes filters. The new SSE endpoint supports cursors, batching, heartbeats, and debounce handling.
Authenticated SSE client
frontend/src/api/client.ts, frontend/src/composables/useLogStream.ts
Token refresh is reusable. The stream composable parses log events, batches callbacks, handles permanent errors, and reconnects with capped backoff.
Live logs view, filters, and CSV export
frontend/src/views/LogsView.vue
The logs view adds live updates, filter chips, scroll handling, metadata copying, fixed timestamps, and paginated CSV export with formula neutralization.
Application shell and development wiring
frontend/src/App.vue, frontend/src/composables/usePageHeader.ts, frontend/src/router/index.ts, frontend/vite.config.ts, .gitignore
The shell uses a persistent rail and shared page headers. The logs route enables full-bleed layout. The API proxy uses VITE_API_TARGET, and generated files are ignored.

Merge Risk: 🟠 High · up to 5c6d4

The PR adds live log streaming and changes refresh behavior, but reconnect races can leave orphaned streams and duplicate rows, refresh can inflate results, and removing TLS parameters can prevent secure listeners from connecting. These correctness and availability risks mean the PR is not merge-ready until fixed.

In `@frontend/src/composables/useLogStream.ts`:
- Around line 122-126: Update useLogStream’s reconnect scheduling to retain the
pending setTimeout handle, clear it in stop(), and reset the handle when it

preserving the current behavior for other response statuses.

preserving the existing scroll positioning for non-following users.
- Around line 125-132: Update the refresh button handler to use the same
stop-stream, refetch, and restart flow as applyFilters and toggleLive when Live

A pending backoff retry survived stop(), so a stop/start cycle could leave two
readers feeding the same table. Also keeps TLS params in the listener DSN and
treats a post-refresh 401 as permanent.
