Why

The Device Console's goals, ranked principles, scope, recurring-task patterns and content guide were written on 23–24 Sep for the design-system artifact and existed only there. Coding agents read AGENTS.md → UI_UX.md, so they never saw them: of the seven principles, only "affordance before instruction" had reached the repo, and none of the goals or the scope table.

Change

  • docs/design-system/: DIRECTION.md (goals, principles in the order they win, scope), DESIGN.md (visual language and "one way per repeated thing"), PATTERNS.md, CONTENT.md, BUILDING-A-SURFACE.md, copied from the artifact. Every path and the checked specifics (fonts, --primary values, skeleton names, max-w-6xl shell) were verified against 70aaba0; artifact-only references (component cards, bundle.css, tokens.json) were rewritten for the repo.
  • docs/design-system/README.md: one source per question. UI_UX.md stays the owner of the information architecture, so nothing competes with it. It also lists what is not decided yet (ownership, communication, feedback, metrics, deprecation) so agents flag those instead of assuming.
  • docs/design-system/CHANGELOG.md: first entry, with change classes.
  • One-line pointers in AGENTS.md, UI_UX.md and docs/README.md.

Docs only; no screen, token or component changes.

Open decisions (not in this PR)

Which goal each principle serves, what is deferred in scope, who approves a design-system change, how system work is prioritised, and which number shows the system works.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Goals, ranked principles, scope, patterns, the content guide and the
new-surface steps existed only in the design-system artifact, so coding
agents reading AGENTS.md never saw them. They now live in
docs/design-system/, with a one-source-per-question index, a changelog,
and a list of decisions not made yet (ownership, communication,
feedback, metrics, deprecation). No screen changes.
