Dorpn Editor is a dedicated Android code editor and development environment for the Dorpn programming language.
It is designed to make Dorpn development practical on Android by bringing the editor, file management, Dorpn compiler, runtime files, and a Linux-based development environment together in one application.
Dorpn is designed to provide a simple programming experience while still being capable of working close to the system. However, developing and compiling programs on Android can require a number of separate tools and a suitable environment.
Dorpn Editor was created to solve that problem.
Instead of using a general-purpose text editor and manually managing the entire development environment, Dorpn Editor provides a dedicated workspace for writing and running Dorpn programs on Android.
The editor also provides an integrated Alpine Linux environment, giving users access to Linux command-line tools and the ability to install additional packages when their workflow requires them.
- Syntax highlighting for Dorpn, C, Js
- Multiple file tabs
- Adjustable editor font size
- Automatic file saving
- Source file and binary file detection
- File and folder explorer
- Create and manage project files
- Open multiple source files through tabs
- Work with files directly inside the integrated environment
- Dorpn compiler bundled with the editor
- Dorpn runtime files bundled with the editor
- Compile and Run workflow
- Compiler flag configuration
- Support for Dorpn compilation backends
Dorpn Editor includes an Alpine Linux environment that can be accessed through the built-in terminal.
This environment can be used to:
- Install additional packages
- Run command-line tools
- Manage development dependencies
- Work with compilers, runtimes, and other utilities
The environment is not limited to Dorpn. Users can install tools for other programming languages and development workflows as required.
Dorpn can use different compilation backends.
The C backend is the default backend. It generates C code which is then compiled using Clang.
Dorpn also provides a JavaScript backend, which uses Node.js to run the generated JavaScript code.
The Dorpn compiler and runtime files are already bundled with Dorpn Editor. However, external tools required by a specific backend must be installed separately inside the Alpine environment.
For example:
| Backend | Required tool |
|---|---|
| C | Clang |
| JavaScript | Node.js + npm |
Check SETUP.md for the complete setup guide.
Dorpn Editor is built specifically with Android in mind.
The goal is not to reproduce a full desktop IDE on a phone, but to provide the essential tools needed to write, compile, and run programs in a convenient mobile environment.
The integrated Linux environment also gives advanced users more control over their development setup when additional tools are needed.
Dorpn Editor is now available as a public release.
The project is still evolving, and some parts of the editor may continue to receive improvements in future releases.
If you encounter a bug or unexpected behaviour, please report it through the repository's Issues section or Join the official Discord community server of Dorpn programming language.
Clear reproduction steps and logs make issues easier to investigate.
Dorpn is a compiled programming language focused on simple syntax while retaining the ability to work with lower-level system capabilities.
