The UI\Component\Modal component family is partially superseded by the UI\Component\Prompt components.

The deprecation should stop new developments from using the components. No specific deadline is set (yet).

We should only announce this at JF after #10031 is merged.

Jour Fixe, 24 AUG 2026: Thibeau notified us about the deprecation of these UI elements. They should no longer be used for new implementations and a replacement of existing usages could be planned.

Hello everyone.
Questions regarding the deprecations were raised both at the JourFixe and at the last meeting of the ‘Removing Legacy UIComponents Service and Table’ project.

We acknowledge and take seriously the concerns that a UI component has been introduced into use that is now to be announced as deprecated ‘yet again’.
In our view, part of the concern is based on the fact that it is common practice for a deprecation to be announced and then implemented in the following release. That is not the objective in this specific case.

With the new 'Prompts' available, we want to minimise further use of roundtrip and interruptive modals, since they accept any UI component and we want to consider more carefully what components are accepted as 'Prompt Content' in the future. We know that this does not only concern the ILIAS Core, but also affects the Plugin landscape.

To ensure transparency and enable planning, we would like to clarify the following:

  • We will mark the UI components as ‘deprecated’, as planned.
  • We will re-assess the specific announcement towards the end of the development phase for Release 14. This means that these components will continue to be supported until Release 14.
  • We will communicate the results of this re-assessment in a timely manner via the JourFixe.

Kind regards,
@oliversamoila (as UI Coordinator and Project Manager of ‚RemovingLUI')
