In this PR,

  1. Uses the objective lattice to accept or reject candidates (e.g., if the objective moves in $step = 5$ and the current incumbent objective $\hat{z} = 100$, then it only accepts candidates with an objective $z \leq 95$).
  2. Add a tolerance to avoid accepting candidates with similar objectives
  3. Add debug checks for the bounds violations, integrality and residual.

Changes

Branch-and-bound now centralizes objective cutoff and incumbent acceptance rules. Integrality diagnostics use explicit integer-variable indices. Postsolve reconstruction logs constraint, integrality, and variable-bound errors.

Objective lattice and solution diagnostics

Objective cutoff rules

Heuristic, repaired, tree-search, and deterministic solutions use the shared acceptance rule.

🔴 Critical · Preserve the first lattice objective below a non-lattice upper… · branch_and_bound.cpp:506-507

cpp/src/branch_and_bound/branch_and_bound.cpp:506-507
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🔴 Critical | ⚡ Quick win

Preserve the first lattice objective below a non-lattice upper bound.

If the upper bound is seeded at 103 and feasible objectives have a step of 5, Line 506 produces a cutoff of 95. This excludes an improving feasible objective of 100. The integral branch has the same error: an upper bound of 10.8 produces a cutoff of 9 and excludes 10. Select the greatest lattice value strictly below the upper bound, with appropriate rounding tolerance. As per path instructions, “incorrect objective or constraint handling” is CRITICAL.

506 - 507:
Update the stepped and integral objective cutoff calculations to select the
greatest lattice value strictly below the upper bound, using the existing
rounding tolerances so non-lattice bounds such as 103 with step 5 retain 100 and
10.8 retains 10. Avoid unconditionally subtracting an additional lattice step
when the bound already lies between lattice values.

🟡 Minor · Print the global upper bound in the diagnostic. · branch_and_bound.cpp:568

cpp/src/branch_and_bound/branch_and_bound.cpp:568
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Print the global upper bound in the diagnostic.

incumbent_.objective is labeled as upper_bound, but the global bound is stored in upper_bound_. The class contract also allows upper_bound_ to be finite while incumbent_.has_incumbent is false. Heuristic and sub-MIP callers can reach this log before the bound update, so it can report the wrong value.

Suggested fix
-    settings_.log.print_format("upper_bound={}, obj={}\n", incumbent_.objective, obj);
+    settings_.log.print_format("upper_bound={}, obj={}\n", upper_bound_.load(), obj);
