Latest Release — v3.1.0

New Features in v3.1.0

  • WiiU WUA support — reads and writes WUA (.wua) ZArchive images. Convert WUD/WUX to WUA, or WUA back to WUD/WUX/AppTmd. WUA is a compressed ZArchive container storing decrypted WiiU content in code/content/meta layout
  • WiiU Loadiine support — reads Loadiine folder sources (decrypted code/content/meta directory tree) and converts to WUA, AppTmd or other WiiU formats
  • WUA ↔ Loadiine conversion — bidirectional conversion between WUA and Loadiine formats
  • WUA/Loadiine → AppTmd conversion — converts decrypted WUA or Loadiine content to installable NUS AppTmd packages (verified working on hardware)
  • ZArchive container support — full ZArchive read/write pipeline integration
  • Folder-format pipeline integration — WUA and Loadiine sources work with all NKit tasks (scan, extract, convert, dedupe)

Bug Fixes in v3.1.0

  • NKDS — ISO9660 non-standard sector bytes not restored on verify — Mode2 sectors with non-standard intermediate bytes are now correctly packed and restored
  • NKDS — ISO9660 integer overflow crash on malformed PVD — a 64MB FST buffer cap prevents a crash on discs with unrealistically large sector counts in the PVD
  • NKDS — ISO9660 FileSystem records overwriting File data — ImageBuilder now skips FileSystem writes that overlap an already-committed File area, fixing reconstruction corruption
  • NKDS — BlockPadding stride conversion — BlockPadding records are no longer passed through the stride size conversion, fixing verify failures for images with sector padding
  • NKDS — BlockWriter threading — WaitAll now uses event signalling instead of a 100 ms polling loop; the semaphore is acquired after the per-key lock is released, removing a potential deadlock

v3.0.1

Bug Fixes in v3.0.1

  • PS2 NKDS VerifyFailed for mixed Mode2 CUE+BIN images — PS2 disc images using mixed Mode2 tracks in CUE+BIN format now store and verify correctly
  • PS2 NKDS VerifyFailed: uncovered FS gaps missed — a stale parallel-stage FST caused newly stored gaps to be missed, producing false verification failures
  • ISO9660 FST gap analysis regression — directory entries resolved via the refactored processDirectory path were incorrectly included in gap analysis; now correctly skipped (regression from the v3 refactor)
  • Xbox beta disc support — adds recognition of a known XGD1 beta disc (slightly larger than standard OG discs) and a known XGD3 beta disc (same size as XGD3v0 but with different video ISO lengths) — thanks @Deterous

v3.0.0

What's New in v3

  • New interactive CLI — run nkit or nkds with no arguments (or drop a file onto them) to launch a guided builder. Shows the equivalent command so it doubles as a way to learn the CLI. Both apps also detect when a file is dropped on them and pre-seed it into the interactive builder.
  • New verb-based CLI — nkit convert, nkds add, nkds mount etc. with modern --long / -short options. Config keys and CLI names match.
  • New processing core — async parallel pipeline (Input → PreProcess → Process → Output) with autoscaling workers. Live progress bar with throughput and stage stats.
  • Console colours — log lines coloured by scope and task; Verify outcomes green/red.
  • NKDS compaction fixed — v3 introduced validate-before-replace and promote-or-delete crash recovery for compaction. See NKDS Data Safety.
  • NKDS dat verification (UI) — load dats, classify images as Correct/Badly Named/Wrong CRC/Missing, auto-rename.
  • Config auto-setup — both nkit and nkds create the full folder tree (dats/, keys/, fix/, out/, …) and copy a default config on first run.
  • FUSE/Dokan improvements — stale mount cleanup, cleaner unmount on set close, cursor restored after interactive mode on Linux.
  • Window titles — taskbar and alt-tab now show NKit vX.Y.Z / NKDS vX.Y.Z across all platforms.

Known Issues

Area Issue Workaround
Windows Antivirus false positive on first run Whitelist the executables. All builds are automated and unsigned (native AOT).
Linux glibc error on older distros Use the legacy build (glibc 2.27+, Ubuntu 18.04+).
macOS Gatekeeper blocks unsigned binaries See macOS setup below.
VFS Requires extra software Windows: Dokan. Linux: FUSE 3. macOS: FUSE-T.
Linux terminal Resizing the terminal during processing may clip log lines Known Spectre.Console limitation. Minimised in v3.0.0 — the live region resets on resize.

macOS Gatekeeper

Builds are not code-signed (an Apple Developer certificate will be purchased from donations).

Quick fix (Terminal):

xattr -d com.apple.quarantine nkit nkds nkit-ui nkds-ui
chmod +x nkit nkds nkit-ui nkds-ui

GUI method: Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, find the blocked app, click Open Anyway.
