Keep a driver run's keyboard focus when other windows take the foreground - #432
No picture: this only changes driver builds. The lede is the same script on both drivers, with the window losing focus before each round.

A driver key does nothing when the window has lost focus, and the step still logs ok. Agents running on this desktop keep launching other Icarus windows, so this happens often: in one 20-round run, 11 keys dropped. Scripts could pass having tested nothing, and a key's only safety net was a check someone remembered to write after it.
What changed
When another window takes the foreground, Flutter parks keyboard focus at the root of the focus tree, by two routes: the app lifecycle goes inactive, and the view reports unfocused. Every driver run now ignores both from startup, so focus is never lost. _ignoreOsFocus comes from the app check sweep's ignoreOsFocus step in E:\w\sw-gt\drive-steps.patch. It runs in startDrive rather than as a step, so no script has to ask for it.
A key or keyCombo step also fails with no keyboard focus for this key if nothing holds focus after 2 s. That can still happen without any other window involved, and it used to log ok.
Why not restore focus before each key
The first commit here did that, also with no OS call. Ignoring OS focus is better because it protects everything between key steps as well. With the view-focus route left open, a text field in the rename dialog lost focus the moment the window did, and the guard would only have put focus back at the next key. With both routes blocked it stays focused. It is also less code.
Shared desktop
Nothing here takes the foreground. There is no OS focus call, no window lookup and no process name, because driver input is sent inside the process. A step holds the OS foreground for no time at all, and can wait up to 2 s for Flutter focus before failing.
What I ran
Windows release driver builds against the dev deployment. All of these ran on one build of this PR merged with #417 and #425, unless marked.
Forced focus loss: the table above, all 20 key steps clean. The loss was a WM_KILLFOCUS posted to the run's own Flutter view, found by its exact exe path, so no other window was touched.
Real focus loss: a terminal of mine took the foreground and kept it to the end of the run. All 12 keys landed, and a foreground log with full process paths shows Icarus never came back to the front.
Repo scripts that press keys: select-with-tool-open.json 133 steps, pinned-end-gone.json 35 steps, both clean.
right-click-local.json 101 steps and right-click-cloud.json 63 steps clean, every undo and delete proved by expectAgents.
Text field, test build with a temporary off switch: focus stayed on the rename dialog's field with the block on, and went to the root with no widget holding it with the view route open.
Failure path, same test build: a temporary step parked focus at the root. The key step failed, the run reported problems, and the next key worked after a canvas click.
Not covered
The key check proves focus is held, not that the app acted on the key. A script still needs a check after a key that matters.
A driver run can no longer test how the app behaves when its window loses focus, such as Space being released while the window is in the background. No script in the repo does.
desktop_runtime_native.dart still takes the foreground once when any build launches. That no longer costs another run its keys. It can still disturb computer use, and it isn't a driver change, so it stays out of this PR.
Confidence Score: 5/5
The PR appears safe to merge; no blocking issue was found.
Summary
Driver runs now ignore OS focus changes from startup. Both key and keyCombo wait up to two seconds for Flutter focus and fail if none appears.
Driver runs keep widget focus when another window comes forward.
Key steps stop when no focused widget can receive input.

Walkthrough
The drive now checks for a primary focus context before scripted key and keyCombo input. When needed, it signals Flutter lifecycle and view focus, then waits up to two seconds for focus. It throws a StateError if focus is not restored. It does not change the OS foreground.

Summary
Focus guard and key dispatch lib/dev/drive/drive.dart
_ensureKeyFocus returns when the app is resumed and a primary focus context exists. Otherwise, it signals Flutter lifecycle-resumed and view-focused events, waits up to two seconds for focus, and throws a StateError if focus is unavailable. The key and keyCombo steps call it before dispatching key events.
A key step can report success without the key reaching the application. Fix the focus check before merging.

Reject the View scope as restored app focus.
_ensureKeyFocus() sends ViewFocusDirection.undefined. Flutter then focuses the View scope itself. That scope has a context, so held() returns true even though GlobalShortcuts and ReplayView are descendants and cannot receive the key. The step can therefore log success while the key reaches no application handler.
Require the primary focus to be inside the application focus subtree before logging FOCUS restored or sending the key.

Fail a driver key step that would reach nothing
Keep a driver run's keyboard focus when other windows take the foreground
Nov 1, 2026
When another window takes the foreground, Flutter parks keyboard focus
at the root, and a driver key then reaches no widget while the step
still logs ok. Scripts passed having tested nothing.
Before each key the driver now tells Flutter its window is back, which
returns focus to the widget that had it, and fails the step if nothing
holds focus after 2 s. Nothing here touches the OS foreground, so a run
can't take it from another run on a shared desktop.
Restoring focus before each key only covered key steps: a text field
still blurred the moment another window took the foreground. A driver
run now ignores OS focus from startup, so focus is never lost and no
step needs to get it back. A key step still fails if nothing holds focus.
