feat(MSDK-4229): add tab-targeted showSecondLayer to the React Native bridge - #262
A tab the layout does not have never hides the layer; it opens the default tab (same as native).
Design decision worth a look
The tab travels inside the options map ({...options, tab: "SERVICES" | "PARTNERS"}) instead of as a new native argument. The public API is still a separate tab argument, but the native module, the TurboModule/Fabric spec, the Kotlin RNUsercentricsModuleSpec and the Objective-C RCT_EXTERN_METHOD signatures are unchanged, so there is no old-arch/new-arch signature drift. A call without a tab passes options through untouched (same object). Enums already cross the bridge as strings in this repo (LegalLinksSettings). The alternative, a real second native parameter, would touch all four signature layers on both architectures.
Android: ReadableMap?.secondLayerTab() (missing, null, non-string or unknown becomes null) and UsercentricsBanner(...).showSecondLayer(tab, callback) through the proxy.
iOS: SecondLayerTab.from(enumString:) and UsercentricsBanner.showSecondLayer(tab:completionHandler:) through UsercentricsManager.
⚠️ Why this is a draft
iOS compiles against the released iosPackageVersion 2.34.0 (already pinned).
Android needs UsercentricsBanner.showSecondLayer(tab, callback), which is not in any released native SDK yet. It is in mobile-sdk PR #2569 (MSDK-4225, still open). usercentricsVersion is still 2.34.0, so Android CI is expected to fail to compile until a native release containing #2569 exists and the pin is bumped. Not mergeable before that.
Testing
tsc --noEmit clean; jest: 40/40 pass (3 new: tab passed as SERVICES/PARTNERS, no-options case, and options passed through unchanged without a tab). ESLint: 0 errors (the repo's existing prettier warnings are unchanged).
Android: new JVM SecondLayerTabExtensionsTest, 6/6 pass, and the whole react-native-usercentrics module compiles, against a local Maven build of #2569 published as 2.34.0-tab-local (temporary local edits, not committed).
iOS: sampleTests/RNUsercentricsModuleTests, 42/42 pass on an iPhone 17 Pro simulator against the released 2.34.0 pods, including new testShowSecondLayerWithTab and testShowSecondLayerWithUnknownTabFallsBackToDefault.
Not run / not covered: no on-device run of the sample app with a real banner. The android/src/androidTest instrumented suite is already stale on master (its fake uses package names com.usercentrics.reactnativemodule / reactnativeusercentrics that no longer exist) and was left untouched, so the module-to-proxy wiring on Android is covered by compilation only, not by a test.
Open the consent second layer directly on a selected tab
What Changed
Choose the Services tab for GDPR or CCPA layouts, or the Partners/Vendors tab for TCF layouts when opening the second layer.
If the requested tab is unavailable or unrecognized, the second layer opens on its default tab.
Impact
✅ Fewer taps to reach service settings ✅ Fewer taps to reach TCF vendor settings ✅ Default tab preserved for unavailable selections

Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
The second-layer consent view can now open directly on the Services or Partners tab. If no supported tab is specified, it opens on the default tab.
Tests
Added coverage for tab selection, unsupported values, and calls without a specified tab.
… bridge
Usercentrics.showSecondLayer(options?, tab?) opens the second layer directly on
SecondLayerTab.services (GDPR/CCPA Services tab) or SecondLayerTab.partners
(TCF Vendors tab). A tab the layout does not have, an unknown value, or no tab
opens the default tab, matching the native behaviour.
The tab travels inside the options map as "SERVICES" / "PARTNERS", so the native
module, TurboModule spec and Objective-C extern signatures stay unchanged and
a call without a tab passes the options through untouched.
Android needs the native tab API (MSDK-4225), which is not in a released
Usercentrics SDK yet; iOS compiles against the released 2.34.0.

Walkthrough
showSecondLayer now accepts an optional tab selection in the TypeScript API. Android and iOS convert the supplied value and pass the corresponding tab to their native SDK calls. Tests cover supported tab values and fallback cases.
Changes: Second-layer tab selection
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Define and expose the tab option src/models/SecondLayerTab.tsx, src/models/index.tsx, src/NativeUsercentrics.ts, src/Usercentrics.tsx, src/__tests__/index.test.ts
Adds the SecondLayerTab enum with services and partners values. The TypeScript API accepts an optional tab, and tests verify that tab values are forwarded to the native module.
Parse and forward the Android tab android/src/main/java/com/usercentrics/reactnative/extensions/SecondLayerTabExtensions.kt, android/src/main/java/com/usercentrics/reactnative/api/UsercentricsProxy.kt, android/src/main/java/com/usercentrics/reactnative/RNUsercentricsModule.kt, android/src/test/java/com/usercentrics/reactnative/extensions/SecondLayerTabExtensionsTest.kt
Android converts the input map value to a SecondLayerTab and forwards it through the proxy to the SDK. Tests cover supported values and values that resolve to null.
Parse and forward the iOS tab ios/Extensions/SecondLayerTab+Dict.swift, ios/Manager/UsercentricsManager.swift, ios/RNUsercentricsModule.swift, sample/ios/sampleTests/Fake/FakeUsercentricsManager.swift, sample/ios/sampleTests/RNUsercentricsModuleTests.swift
iOS converts the input dictionary value to a SecondLayerTab and forwards it through the manager to the banner API. Tests cover supported values and values that leave the selected tab unset.
Confirm that Android builds with the pinned native SDK and update the test fake before merging. Tab forwarding also has bounded Android and iOS coverage gaps.

Add optional "tab" targeting when showing the second layer across React Native bridge (Android + iOS + JS/TS), wiring a SecondLayerTab enum through options and adding parsing + tests.
Changes:
JS/TS
Add SecondLayerTab enum model and export.
Usercentrics.showSecondLayer now accepts an optional tab parameter and forwards it inside the options map to the native bridge.
Native spec updated: showSecondLayer options can include tab?: SecondLayerTab.
Unit tests added/updated to cover calling showSecondLayer with and without tab and verify the propagated value.
Android
RNUsercentricsModule: extract SecondLayerTab from options and pass it to UsercentricsProxy.
UsercentricsProxy interface and implementation updated to accept an optional SecondLayerTab when calling UsercentricsBanner.showSecondLayer(tab).
Add ReadableMap.secondLayerTab() extension that safely parses "tab" string -> SecondLayerTab (returns null for missing/invalid values).
Kotlin unit tests added for the extension.
iOS
Add SecondLayerTab+Dict.swift extension to map incoming tab strings ("SERVICES"/"PARTNERS") to SecondLayerTab enum (nil for unknown/missing).
UsercentricsManager protocol and implementation updated to accept optional SecondLayerTab and forward to UsercentricsBanner.showSecondLayer(tab:completionHandler:).
Sample FakeUsercentricsManager and tests updated to record/assert the passed tab; new tests verify valid and invalid tab handling.
Behavioral notes:
Tab is optional. Valid string values are "SERVICES" and "PARTNERS" (case-sensitive). Missing, null, non-string or unknown values fall back to default behavior (tab = null -> default tab shown).
Native module signature (options map) stays compatible; tab is transported inside the BannerSettings/options map, minimizing breaking surface.
Tests:
New unit tests on JS and iOS sample suite and Kotlin extension tests to ensure correct parsing and propagation.

Additional Suggestion
android/src/androidTest/java/com/usercentrics/reactnative/api/FakeUsercentricsProxy.kt, line:37-58
The test fake (reference: lines 37-58) still implements the old showSecondLayer(activity, bannerSettings, promise) signature. The interface/signature was changed to include a tab parameter. Update the fake to the new signature and capture the passed SecondLayerTab (e.g. add var showSecondLayerTab: SecondLayerTab? and set it in the override) so unit tests compile and can assert the tab value.
Add tab-targeted second-layer display to the React Native bridge
✨ Enhancement🧪 Tests🕐 20-40 Minutes
AI Description
• Expose Services and Partners tab targeting through Usercentrics.showSecondLayer.
• Pass tab selection through the existing options map, preserving native bridge signatures and
default behavior.
• Add cross-platform tests; Android requires an unreleased native SDK API before merge.
The following are alternative approaches to this PR:
1. Add a separate native tab parameter
➕ Makes the native method contract explicit rather than embedding tab selection in options.
➖ Requires coordinated signature changes across legacy and new React Native architectures on both platforms.
➖ Increases the risk of bridge signature drift.
Recommendation: Keep the options-map approach: it provides a separate public argument while preserving existing native signatures and calls without a tab. Do not merge until an Android SDK release includes the required tab-aware banner API and the version pin is updated.

The PR needs attention before merging: Android may fail to compile if the pinned usercentrics-ui 2.34.0 artifact lacks the tab overload used by this call.
Add a test that passes tab and secondLayerStyleSettings in one call.
The tab tests pass only tab, and the settings test passes only secondLayerStyleSettings. A change that drops the settings when a tab is present would not fail any test in this suite. Add a case to RNUsercentricsModuleTests.swift that sets both keys and asserts both fakeUsercentrics.showSecondLayerTab and fakeUsercentrics.showSecondLayerBannerSettings?.secondLayerStyleSettings.

Add a combined-input test near the existing showSecondLayer tests in
RNUsercentricsModuleTests, passing both tab and secondLayerStyleSettings to
module.showSecondLayer in one call. Assert that
fakeUsercentrics.showSecondLayerTab and
fakeUsercentrics.showSecondLayerBannerSettings?.secondLayerStyleSettings both
retain their respective values.
Assert the forwarded second-layer tab in the Android module tests.
The module tests check only showSecondLayerBannerSettings. Passing null instead of options.secondLayerTab() at RNUsercentricsModule.kt:67 would not fail any of them. The parser tests in SecondLayerTabExtensionsTest.kt cover only secondLayerTab(), so no test covers the module-to-proxy call.
The instrumented suite does not compile at this head. FakeUsercentricsProxy.showSecondLayer still takes three parameters, but UsercentricsProxy.showSecondLayer takes tab: SecondLayerTab?. Fix that signature first. It is a separate prerequisite and is not part of the changes below. Once the suite compiles, a null tab would still pass every module test.
Record the tab in the fake, using the four-parameter override:
Then assert both supported values at the module boundary in RNUsercentricsModuleTest:
Assert SERVICES and PARTNERS in RNUsercentricsModuleTest
+ @Test+ fun testShowSecondLayerForwardsSecondLayerTab() {+ val usercentricsProxy = FakeUsercentricsProxy()+ val contextMock = mockk<ReactApplicationContext>(relaxed = true)+ val module =+ RNUsercentricsModule(contextMock, usercentricsProxy, ReactContextProviderMock())++ val servicesPromise = FakePromise()+ module.showSecondLayer(mapOf("tab" to "SERVICES").toWritableMap(), servicesPromise)+ servicesPromise.await()+ assertEquals(SecondLayerTab.SERVICES, usercentricsProxy.showSecondLayerTab)++ val partnersPromise = FakePromise()+ module.showSecondLayer(mapOf("tab" to "PARTNERS").toWritableMap(), partnersPromise)+ partnersPromise.await()+ assertEquals(SecondLayerTab.PARTNERS, usercentricsProxy.showSecondLayerTab)+ }
Both the fake and the test file need import com.usercentrics.sdk.models.settings.SecondLayerTab.
This is a test-coverage gap for behavior that already works, so it is not a current production failure.

Unverified finding
We couldn't verify this from the code. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
The proxy calls the tab-taking UsercentricsBanner.showSecondLayer API while the supplied Gradle configuration still pins Android SDK 2.34.0. The supplied CI failure reports that neither available overload matches this call.
Android Kotlin compilation fails, preventing release of this change as pinned.
This can occur when: Android is built against the repository-pinned SDK rather than the author's local unreleased SDK build.

Update the fake's showSecondLayer override to match the new interface signature.
This PR adds the tab: SecondLayerTab? parameter to UsercentricsProxy.showSecondLayer. The fake's override still has the old three-parameter signature, so it no longer implements the interface member. Add the parameter and its import.
Two other errors in the fake predate this PR and also block compilation. The import on line 8 names a package that does not exist. The showFirstLayer override also has the wrong parameter list. Both need separate fixes before the androidTest sources compile.
