💡 What

Replaces standard List<MappedRegion> indexer accesses inside VirtualMemory.cs loops with CollectionsMarshal.AsSpan() to operate directly on the backing array structure. Also updates binary search midpoint calculations to use the unsigned right shift operator (>>> 1).

🎯 Subsystem & Bottleneck

  • Subsystem: Guest MMU & Memory Subsystem
  • Target File(s): src/SharpEmu.Core/Memory/VirtualMemory.cs
  • Bottleneck Addressed: CPU instruction overhead and MSIL bounds-checking introduced by standard List<T> indexers executed during hot-path TryRead/TryWrite memory translation loops.

📜 Git & Contributor Context

  • Recent File History: Checked git log. Avoided active work in Vulkan GPU pipeline string allocations (which is currently handled by another session) to prevent duplicate efforts and collisions.
  • Conflict Check: Verified change does not overlap with recent commits or reverted attempts. The file hasn't been modified in the last 7 days by active contributors.

📊 Measured Performance Impact

  • Computational Impact: Replaced index-checked enumerations over List<T> with bounds-free ReadOnlySpan<T> array traversal during virtual page lookup and copying. Replaced integer division ((upper - lower) / 2) with unsigned right shift >>> 1 for optimal binary search execution speed.

🔬 Verification Checklist

  • Executed dotnet test (All tests passed)
  • Verified zero unexpected allocations in hot path
  • Verified formatting with dotnet format
  • Confirmed thread safety and emulation accuracy

PR created automatically by Jules for task 15559922512204812030 started by @manupawickramasinghe

In hot paths like guest address translation where `VirtualMemory` read/write methods are called millions of times per second, the `List<T>` indexer bounds-checking adds significant overhead. This change uses `CollectionsMarshal.AsSpan` to retrieve the backing array and bypass index bounds checking during search and copy loops. It also optimizes the binary search midpoint calculation using the unsigned right shift `>>>` operator.
