Summary

QuickAdd's Svelte policy checker and oxlint plugin now come from the shared svelte-policy package, instead of the copy in tooling/ that #2224 added. PodNotes uses the same package, so each rule now has one implementation to fix. The rules QuickAdd enforces are unchanged, and every message is byte-identical to master's.

The package also closes gaps in the old checker. QuickAdd's current code triggers none of them:

  • svelte-ignore comments. These were reported wrongly or skipped:
    • dashed, comma-separated or next-line codes;
    • comments in legacy components;
    • empty comments, which now count as unused;
    • script // svelte-ignore comments, which are now checked;
    • codes, which are now matched per compile mode the way Svelte matches them.
  • Object literals in mixed attribute values. Objects inside attribute values that mix text and mustaches are reported again, as svelte/no-object-in-text-mustaches did.
  • Each blocks without an item no longer need a key.
  • no-not-function-handler is back, covering handlers in JavaScript and no-script components too.
  • Backtick member names such as window[`setTimeout`] no longer bypass the timer and DOM rules.

The package is svelte-policy 0.1.0 on npm, installed as "svelte-policy": "^0.1.0".

Changes

  • svelte-policy.json holds QuickAdd's config: the ten Obsidian selectors and their messages, runes-only and no-svelte-store on, and the logger message for no-console.

  • lint:svelte runs svelte-policy. .oxlintrc.syntax.json loads svelte-policy/oxlint under the quickadd name and maps each rule one to one, keeping its globs and severities:

    Before After
    quickadd/svelte-internal on **/*.ts quickadd/no-svelte-internal
    quickadd/svelte-runes on **/*.svelte.ts quickadd/no-svelte-store and quickadd/runes-only
    quickadd/svelte-debug (warn) quickadd/no-inspect (warn)
    quickadd/restricted-syntax unchanged
  • Rule ids that change. Three component diagnostics that reported restricted-syntax now have their own ids: no-svelte-store (svelte/store imports), no-svelte-internal (svelte/internal imports) and runes-only (named createEventDispatcher imports). In .svelte.ts files, runes-only also reports $: statements. No file has one.

  • Deleted tooling/svelte-policy.mjs and tooling/oxlint-plugin.mjs, including the svelteImportGuards leftover, and removed the esquery dev dependency.

  • tests/tooling/sveltePolicy.test.ts keeps the tests of QuickAdd's own wiring:

    • oxlint against .oxlintrc.syntax.json, now with a dispatcher fixture and a severity check on no-inspect;
    • the type-aware test;
    • message equality between oxlint and the checker;
    • checks of svelte-policy.json.

    The fixture corpus moved to the package, where every build(deps): adopt native tooling and replace ESLint #2224 fixture is kept verbatim.

  • tooling/README.md points to the package and updates the rule-audit rows.

  • Out of scope: the check script, tests/tooling/svelteCheck.test.ts and all svelte-check wiring are unchanged.

Testing / validation

All on Node 22.23.2 and pnpm 10.32.1, on the merge with origin/master ca6ea85 (#2226, #2227, #2228):

  • pnpm install --frozen-lockfile succeeds with node_modules deleted first. pnpm-lock.yaml differs from master only by the svelte-policy@0.1.0 registry entry and its importer line, with the same integrity as the published tarball, plus the removed direct esquery entry.

  • pnpm run lint:svelte reports Svelte policies: 0 errors, 0 warnings.

  • pnpm run test: 501 files passed and 6 skipped, with 6,880 tests passed and 28 skipped.

  • pnpm run build-with-lint passes. Its parallel lint ran lint:native, lint:svelte (0 errors, 0 warnings), lint:tsconfig and check (58 files, 0 errors, 0 warnings).

  • main.js and styles.css are byte-identical to master's build at ca6ea85. main.js sha256 is d83aa6eeaa77bbcfe0e3574f3ab1e67c57469506074c43f5e67087bf64ae6127.

  • Comparison at d57eb15: master's checker and the package, run side by side with QuickAdd's config, agreed on all 202 sources (every fixture in master's test file plus all 57 components). Line, column, message and severity matched, and the rule matched after the three renames.

  • Planted violations print master's messages on this branch:

    • a svelte/internal import in a .ts file;
    • a createEventDispatcher import in a .svelte.ts file;
    • console.log and document.createElement("div") in a template.

    After the two oxlint code renames, the output diffs empty against master.

  • No Obsidian runtime check, because the bundle is unchanged.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Developer Tools

    • Updated Svelte checks to flag store usage, non-rune syntax, debug inspection, and console calls.
    • Added checks for DOM creation patterns, inline styles, regex lookbehind, and other compatibility-sensitive code.
    • The Svelte policy checker now also applies rune restrictions to shared .svelte.ts modules.
  • Documentation

    • Updated tooling guidance to explain the Svelte policy checks and how they complement Oxlint.

The package is not on npm yet. The vendored tarball is packed from
chhoumann/svelte-policy at d10fa59 and is replaced by the published
^0.1.0 before this branch merges.
Replace the tooling/ component checker and oxlint plugin with the shared
svelte-policy package. svelte-policy.json holds the ten restricted
selectors and messages, turns on no-svelte-store and runes-only, and
keeps the logger message for no-console. Oxlint loads the package's
plugin under the quickadd prefix, with each rule on the same file globs
and severities as before.

Every message is unchanged. These rule ids change:

- Component checker: svelte/store imports report no-svelte-store,
  svelte/internal imports report no-svelte-internal, and named
  createEventDispatcher imports report runes-only, instead of
  restricted-syntax.
- Oxlint: quickadd(svelte-internal) becomes quickadd(no-svelte-internal).
  quickadd(svelte-runes) becomes quickadd(no-svelte-store) for store
  imports and quickadd(runes-only) for dispatcher imports.
  quickadd(svelte-debug) becomes quickadd(no-inspect).

In shared .svelte.ts modules, runes-only also reports $: statements,
which the old plugin did not check.

The policy fixtures from #2224 now live in the package's own tests, so
tests/tooling/sveltePolicy.test.ts keeps only the checks of QuickAdd's
wiring. esquery is no longer a direct dependency.

Change: Other

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 81c0f

The change swaps local Svelte lint tooling for a shared package without changing the shipped bundle. The one remaining concern is that the dependency range is loose; pin it exactly if the project wants strict control over its lint tooling.

🔒 Security & Privacy | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Pin the lint tool to 0.1.0.

^0.1.0 also permits later 0.1.x releases. A lockfile refresh could therefore install new checker and Oxlint plugin code without an explicit version change. Pin this dependency exactly and update the lockfile. The package provides both executable tooling interfaces. (docs.npmjs.com)

Based on learnings, security-sensitive dev tooling such as linters should use exact version pins rather than ^ or ~.
