What

Adds {{ path || default }} interpolation inside : props, such as :href="/docs/{{ data.slug }}/overview".

It is resolved at render time against the existing { frontmatter, meta, data, props } context and always produces a string.

It also fixes a scope bug where an element whose props were all omitted inherited its parent's (HTML) or grandparent's (Vue, React, Svelte, Angular) props.

Why

Authors could only bind a whole data path, so a link or label could not be built from fixed text plus data (#489). This ports the approach from nuxt-content/mdc#516, adapted to Comark's shared resolver. The scope fix is included because omitting unresolved props made that existing leak easy to hit.

Alternatives considered:

  • Binding plugin or parse-time transform: rejected. Data is unknown at parse time, it would change the serializable AST and the markdown round trip, and it would require the plugin. : bindings already work without it.
  • Own-property lookup, as in mdc: rejected. It does not subscribe Vue's render effect, so keys added later went stale (covered by a Vue reactivity test). The existing get() is reused instead.
  • Custom URL allowlist: rejected to keep the scope narrow. Results go through the existing validateProp, the same validators static values get.
  • Typed results for a sole placeholder: rejected. They overlap the path form (:count="data.n"), so the result is always a string.

Notes

  • These keep today's behavior: props without :, key, ref, is, as and style, malformed placeholders, unknown roots and JSON values.
  • A : prop that already contained a well-formed {{ data.x }} now interpolates.
  • Values are inserted as is, with no URL encoding. security() allowlists apply to literal values only.

Walkthrough

Interpolation helper

internal/stringify/interpolate.ts scans the value with indexOf, parses placeholders and inserts text, numbers and booleans in a single pass. It caps output at 4096 characters, cleans control characters and runs validateProp on the final text. It returns the string, UNRESOLVED (omit the prop) or REJECTED_PROP, or undefined to keep today's behavior.

Shared resolver hook

resolveAttributes (both modes) and resolveAttribute call the helper in attributes.ts. Vue, React, Svelte, Angular, HTML and ANSI get the feature with no renderer changes.

Child scope fix

state.ts and the Vue, React, Svelte and Angular scope code now decide whether to shadow props from the raw attributes, not from the resolved ones.

Tests

  • Unit tests for the helper, resolveAttributes, and DoS shapes within the length limit.
  • A SPEC fixture.
  • Renderer tests for HTML, ANSI, Vue, React and Svelte, including a Vue reactivity test.
  • Scope tests for all five framework renderers and HTML.

Docs and examples

  • A "String interpolation" section in the components docs.
  • Notes in the binding and security docs.
  • Examples in dev:binding and the docs playground.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Component props can now interpolate values from frontmatter, metadata, data, and props, with support for fallback text. Missing values can leave props unset so component defaults apply.
    • Interpolated values update when reactive data changes.
  • Security
    • Unsafe interpolated URLs and restricted attributes are omitted.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Corrected prop scoping so elements with omitted attributes do not accidentally expose ancestor props, while bare wrappers continue to pass props through.
  • Documentation
    • Added guidance and examples for prop interpolation and its security behavior.

Resolve placeholders such as path or default in colon-prefixed string props at render time. They read the existing render context: frontmatter, meta, data and props. The result is always a string, and no plugin is needed.

Only text, numbers and booleans are inserted. A missing value uses the default. A prop that is a single placeholder with nothing to show is omitted. Malformed placeholders, unknown roots, JSON values and the key, ref, is, as and style props keep their current behavior.

The final text is checked for unsafe URL schemes and unsafe prop names with the existing validation.

Also fix a scope leak. An element whose props were all omitted inherited its parent props in the HTML renderer, and its grandparent props in the Vue, React, Svelte and Angular child scope.

Ported from the nuxtjs/mdc implementation: nuxt-content/mdc#516

🟠 malformed placeholders ... are left as written fails with parseJson: true · 2.syntax/2.components.md:348

Correctness · 2.syntax/2.components.md:348 · in Docs Website

When resolveAttributes gets :title="Hi {{ data.x" with parseJson: true, JSON parsing fails, path lookup returns undefined, and framework renderers drop the prop.

Fix: Qualify this bullet by renderer mode: with parseJson: true, malformed : values fall through to path lookup and become undefined; only default mode preserves them.

📝 Walkthrough

The change adds {{ path }} interpolation to bound component props, including fallback values and validation. It also updates prop-scope handling across renderers so raw attributes can shadow inherited props even when resolution omits them.
