Why

A temporary GitHub request limit can stop Homebrew delivery after a release has already published. Existing allowance checks leave later verification reads exposed.

What

Recover one failed evidence read within the existing deadline, then repeat the full delivery checks. Incomplete evidence and unrelated failures still stop delivery, and the existing observation window remains open.

Fixes #8107

Part of #7907

Validation for signed head 7f5cd14a8eea98d43702c9ddaf8728f0c4d00e39, based on merged main 8c9fb97db5a6e94b1794d6bc59af8c99cccdcd1f:

The real finisher first failed on the controlled mid-read primary-quota reproduction. The frozen repair passes all 121 finisher cases, including recovery during the final release read, changed-base refusal and a second recovery with quota already available. Two independent mutation controls remove either stability comparison and confirm its regression then permits a forbidden merge and fails. The collector's 19 cases, merged lookup's 27 cases, reader, budget, publication, replay, redraft and related cask regressions pass. ShellCheck, syntax, formatting and whitespace checks pass.

The cask scripts and CD workflow are byte-identical to that complete frozen test run after integrating the new base. The combined current-base CI harness passes uncached race testing again in 19.429s. The existing replay resolver's executable bit is corrected without changing its bytes.

The repair retains the existing read/write identities, absolute deadline, ordinary retry budgets, complete evidence and protected merge. It neither retries mutations nor prints failed raw responses. Source and GitHub signature verification pass.

Native current-head CI, substantive review, protected merge and actual-source/genuine-delivery verification remain outstanding. #7907 retains its original observation and recorded 31 October miss; this PR does not claim that outcome passed.

The two failing native jobs reported the same release-configuration fingerprint mismatch. The CD change replaces only the Cask evidence reader; the release build targets, tags, CGO settings and dependency selections are unchanged.

Commit 0485bcfa9de7865161f64749c021a3dc2c394710 renews that authored fingerprint after rerunning the complete shipped-graph audit. The local audit passes (14.428 seconds), including its dependency-boundary assertions, and affected lint reports zero issues. The fingerprint still detects future configuration changes; no dependency exception or audit assertion was removed.

Fresh native CI and current-head review remain required before this draft can merge. The parent observation window in #7907 remains open.

Walkthrough

Cask evidence reads now use a shared reader that rejects write-oriented requests and can retry a recognized primary rate-limit failure once within the configured deadline. The collector, fallback lookup, finisher, and CD workflow use this reader. Before promotion or merge, the finisher revalidates delivery evidence and blocks mutation if recovery repeats. Tests cover read failures, retries, changed state, and recovery bounds. The budget-wait script adds an option to fail when quota data is unreadable.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

[#8107] Recovery logic is verified at head in .github/scripts/cask-read-api.sh. The helper retries once only when gh api returns the primary-limit message (^gh: API rate limit (already )?exceeded). It requires KSAIL_GITHUB_WRITE_BUDGET_DEADLINE to be a positive bounded integer. It calls wait-for-github-api-budget.sh with --require-readable, and it rejects a recovery clock at or after the original deadline. It writes the recovery marker before the retry. Output goes to a temporary file, and only a successful final read prints it, so partial responses are discarded. Permission errors, secondary limits, and other failures fall through to a BLOCKED exit. The previous FAIL covered only native CI at reviewed head 719e86e. The PR summary reports that all 96 checks passed at current head b65c8f5, and that all five inline threads are resolved. This result is author-reported and was not independently verified with the tools available. Finisher stability gates (final-read revalidation, changed-base refusal, repeated-recovery refusal) and the regression tests are supported by the AI summary and the earlier assessment. The diff for finish-cask-pr-handoff.sh and its test file could not be read at this review, so their behavior rests on those sources. Protected merge, merged-source verification, a subsequent genuine Homebrew delivery, and the #7907 observation window are non-coding or operational gates. They are not counted in this coding verdict.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The whole-PR scope (merge base 5554495 to head b65c8f5) covers the cask read helper and its test, the cask PR-handoff collector, finder, finisher and their tests, wait-for-github-api-budget.sh with --require-readable and its test, cd.yaml routing of cask reads through the helper, ci.yaml path filter and ShellCheck/test wiring, and the audited digest update in pkg/client/kubescape/release_graph_test.go for cd.yaml#without-uses. The digest update follows from the cd.yaml change that the PR author describes as a fingerprint renewal. No unrelated functional change is demonstrated. The diffs for the finisher and the Go test file could not be read at this review, so the claim that fingerprint and dependency-boundary assertions remain intact rests on the PR author's statement and was not independently confirmed.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 60.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 5 functions across 9 files. (2 skipped: 2 unsupported.)

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

Both actionable findings from review 5728255300 are fixed and answered at bc8e95f. The ancillary hardcoded-password warnings concern the literal synthetic fixture identities personal-writer and repository-reader; they are deliberately distinct test sentinels consumed only by fake GitHub transport, with no credential or account access. No production credential is embedded. The executable-mode observation was already confirmed as valid by the reviewer; the script remains executable.

Local validation: all 123 cask finisher scenarios, the read-recovery and strict API-budget suites, shell syntax/format/lint checks, and the affected CI contract race test pass. Fresh hosted validation and a substantive review of this new head remain required; this is not a readiness declaration.

Learning: In devantler-tech/ksail, .github/scripts/finish-cask-pr-handoff.sh intentionally requires GitHub's native mergeStateStatus to be CLEAN before direct cask delivery. Behind-base ancestry alone does not establish mergeStateStatus=BEHIND; evaluate the effective required-check policy and native merge state. Do not recommend relaxing the CLEAN gates solely because an earlier cask merge advances the tap's main branch. The delivery contract retains a head-pinned merge request with bypass_rules=false.

Reject attached and clustered field forms before transport. Retain the release workflow jq read and bounded private-error diagnostics, with direct negative and compatibility controls. Part of #8107.

Blocker: #8112 | upstream | last-verified 2026-11-01: native run 41328951846 failed in Vanilla full-stack chart acquisition with malformed local Helm repository configuration, before webhook readiness. The registration transaction writes outside the gate used by chart readers; existing retries already cover the parse error. The exact interleaving was not captured. Separate repair #8113 has deterministic lost-update, read/write exclusion and cancellation regressions and is now in native CI.

Keep this PR draft. Resume after #8113 passes normal review/CI and merges: update this branch to that protected main revision, run fresh validation and obtain a clean review at the resulting head. Do not retry the unchanged failing leg or treat the Kyverno readiness merge as repairing repository registration. The Cask parser finding is fixed and its thread is resolved; this record preserves the independent CI blocker.

The upstream blocker is resolved: Helm repair #8113 passed full native CI and current-head review and merged as 55544950d0d6c0f84d7437664f7316b209cfbd8e. This branch now includes that protected source and the earlier Kyverno repair through signed merge b65c8f5afcfcea2ee96bedb42374ab9b07ba8dc9, preserving all eight signed outgoing commits without rewriting history.

On this composed head, the reader, API-budget, collector, 27-case finder, complete 123-scenario finisher and workflow-contract suites passed. The affected Go workflow/release-graph suites passed with the race detector; shellcheck, tab-indented shell formatting and diff checks passed. The Cask implementation bytes are unchanged from the previously validated parser/privacy fix. The helper executable-bit correction already on this branch also removes the unchanged-main formatting warning at its source.

Fresh native CI is running at the new head. Prior green reviews are stale and are not credited; this remains a draft until all new checks and current-head review pass. No unchanged failing run was retried.

Resolution of the current pre-merge annotations at b65c8f5afcfcea2ee96bedb42374ab9b07ba8dc9:

  • Linked issue evidence supplied: all 96 current-head checks have settled successfully, including the complete system matrix. CodeRabbit’s summary updated at 19:55:33 UTC carries a finding-free recent_review verdict for this exact head; the repository’s summary-verdict checker returns GREEN. All five inline threads are resolved. The prior local shell suites, 123 finisher cases, 27 finder cases and both affected race suites remain bound to this unchanged implementation. Release adoption and the later observation window remain separate acceptance checks; neither is claimed here.
  • Docstring coverage warning refuted on scope: both new production functions, complete_readiness and stable_mutation_gate, have adjacent comments explaining their readiness and recovery contracts. The two new undocumented complex functions are private test assertion wrappers, reject_write and reject_expired_recovery; their names, short bodies and the test-file introduction explain their purpose, with executable assertions for status, transport count, recovery marker and suppressed output. No public interface is left unexplained. I judge that documentation sufficient rather than adding comments solely to reach the aggregate 80% fixture-helper metric.

No source changed for these resolutions. A fresh review round will confirm the resulting current-head state before promotion.

Ready at b65c8f5afcfcea2ee96bedb42374ab9b07ba8dc9, based on 55544950d0d6c0f84d7437664f7316b209cfbd8e: all 96 checks have settled successfully; native merge state is CLEAN; all five threads are resolved. The confirmation review updated at 20:07:21 UTC again carries a finding-free verdict for this exact head. The linked-issue check now passes; the unchanged fixture-helper documentation warning has the scoped resolution in 6563119404.

The original failure and adverse quota/deadline/mutation/privacy cases are covered by the real shell entrypoints, and the actual public release read succeeded with the production filter. The signed implementation and integrated main repairs are unchanged since validation. Promoting for the final fresh-head merge check. Post-merge publication, actual cask delivery and #7907’s later observation window remain separate.
