Summary

This bumps Borges to 1.12.0. Merging it releases: release.yml sees the version change in bibliography-builder.php, builds the ZIP, tags v1.12.0, publishes the GitHub Release with the CHANGELOG section as its notes, and dispatches the WordPress.org deploy.

It's a minor version because it adds features (the write abilities) and changes saved markup for newsletters and feeds. Older posts keep validating and switch to the new markup when next saved.

What ships, since 1.11.0:

Files changed (same set as the 1.11.0 release, #146):

  • The version, in bibliography-builder.php, block.json, package.json, package-lock.json, and the readme.txt stable tag.
  • A ## [1.12.0] - 2026-10-22 header in CHANGELOG.md over the accumulated Unreleased notes, plus a short "Internals, for contributors" bullet.
  • The readme.txt changelog and upgrade notice, the README release highlights, and the roadmap release baseline.

Validation

  • All four version fields read 1.12.0, which release.yml requires.
  • node scripts/extract-changelog-section.js 1.12.0 prints the section, so the release job won't fail on a missing section.
  • npm test: 1,058 tests pass, including the Playground demo freshness test.
  • npm run format:check passes.
  • composer test:php: 468 tests pass.
  • .github/scripts/verify-metrics.sh passes.
  • npm run build && npm run package:release builds the release ZIP.

Checklist

  • Version bumped everywhere release.yml checks
  • CHANGELOG section for 1.12.0
  • readme.txt changelog and upgrade notice
  • README highlights and roadmap baseline
  • Merge when ready. This publishes the release and deploys to WordPress.org.

Newsletters and feeds read correctly, names with particles sort per
style, no period after a "?" or "!" title, a per-entry formatter cache,
and opt-in write abilities, plus Phases A-E of the refactor memo.
