First step on feature/realistic-rendering, the integration branch for making the table and dice look real. That branch reaches main only once the owner likes the result on the phone.

What: RenderGalleryTest with tools/gallery.sh.

  • The scenes: seeded throws of every built-in shape (twice) on green felt, oak and dark glass, plus the same throw on felt in metal and in translucent amber.
  • Each throw is settled by the real Jolt physics and drawn through the real FilamentDiceRenderer onto an offscreen 1080 × 2424 surface.
  • The frames are written as PNGs and pulled to build/gallery/.

Nothing is scored: the pictures are the before and after of every rendering step. The test is opt-in (-e gallery 1), so the ordinary device suite skips it.

Why a device test rather than installing the app: it installs only render/filament's test APK. The phone currently runs the v0.2.0 release, which a debug build can't replace without deleting its data.

Run on the Pixel 10a: 5 pictures in 12 s. They are the baseline for the next steps: flat matte dice, a flat felt, "translucent" dice that read as opaque, and razor-sharp edges.

Docs: docs/build-setup.md, "The render gallery"; TODO 5.6 (rendering polish now in progress); STATUS.

Based on feature/realistic-rendering (= main at #374).

Seeded throws of every built-in shape on green felt, oak and dark glass,
plus metal and translucent dice on felt, settled by the real physics and
drawn through the real renderer onto a screen-sized offscreen surface,
written as PNGs and pulled by tools/gallery.sh. Nothing is scored; the
pictures are the before and after of each rendering change.

It installs only render/filament's test APK, so the app on the phone
and its data are untouched, which matters while the phone runs a
release build a debug one cannot replace.
