Multiple FN sites different sub domains

I setup two different sites on the same server though docker.

flatnotes <-- work related
wnotes.mydomain.com

flatnotes2 <-- personal
mynotes.mydomain.com

I was using the wnotes for a few weeks and decided to create one for my personal notes also. It seems that when I visit one site, the cache for the other is causing issues accessing notes from the other. I cannot switch between the sites without running into issues where it cannot find the note or get an error and have to hard refresh alot.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this?

This is a known pain point and you’re definitely not alone.

What you’re experiencing is a token/cache isolation issue that comes up whenever two Flatnotes instances are accessed from the same browser. Each site runs on its own domain so localStorage is technically separate per origin, but the browser aggressively caches the app bundle (JS/CSS files) since both Docker containers serve identical filenames. The result is that stale cached assets from one instance bleed into the other — leading to the note-not-found errors and the need to hard refresh constantly.

The short-term workaround while you wait for a proper fix: open one instance in a regular window and the other in a private/incognito window. They use completely separate storage and cache contexts, so the two instances will never interfere with each other.

I’m the maintainer of Flatnotes Enhanced, a fork of Flatnotes with a growing set of improvements, and this is actually on my implementation list. The planned fix involves namespacing the authentication token storage key per origin so each instance maintains a fully isolated session in the browser — no more cross-instance bleed. Paired with proper cache headers for the app shell, switching between two instances would just work without any manual refreshing.
