Conversation
man CMD shows the command's --help text (help CMD for shell builtins) as a page, in less inside a terminal session. watch reruns its command on the alternate screen until Ctrl-C, or until output changes with -g; outside a terminal it keeps the one-shot notice.

What changed
man CMDbuiltin: shows the command's--helptext (orhelp CMDfor shell builtins) as a manual page. Inside a terminal session it pages throughless; elsewhere it prints. Unknown commands printNo manual entry for Xand exit 16, like man-db.watchis live in a terminal session: it reruns the command on the alternate screen every-nseconds until Ctrl-C, or until output changes with-g.-thides the header,-xruns argv directly. Outside a terminal it keeps the existing one-shot notice. Why
Agents driving the terminal reach for
manto learn flags and forwatchto observe state; both previously failed. Before / After
Before:
man grep→man: command not found(127);watch -n1 date→ one-shot notice, no refresh.After:
man grep→ grep usage page inless, qreturns to the prompt;watch -n1 date→ refreshing header + output on the alternate screen, Ctrl-C restores the primary screen.Risk
terminalfeature is off by default; non-terminalwatchbehavior unchanged apart from flag parsing errors now reported.Checklist
