Lower proven unsigned subtraction into Core - #211
Conversation
…ction Three failing tests reproduce UnsupportedSourceShape for subtraction of unsigned operands, the shape Jedit's ReplaceRange (endByte - startByte) needs. Test plan gains REQ038/TP040. No implementation yet, by design. Refs #210

The Wasmtime supply-chain blocker now has a separate main-based fix in #215. It upgrades to 48.0.4 and requires Rust 1.95 for the host workspace while retaining the Rust 1.94 guest producer. Full verification, both cargo-deny checks, and stable Clippy/tests pass in copied-source Docker; hosted CI/review are separate gates. No subtraction or Jim producer pins were changed by that branch. |

Plain-English Walkthrough
TL;DR
Guarded same-width
U32andU64differences now compile to Core. An input constraint such aswhere input.lower <= input.uppercan justifyinput.upper - input.lower; unproven subtraction still rejects. [claim:unsigned-proof, confidence:1.00]Walkthrough
The compiler checks the basis and input predicates first, without assuming the predicates hold. It then uses the checked predicates while compiling that intent's body and clears the proof scope before another intent. Input identities differ from body locals, so local shadowing does not reuse an input proof. [claim:proof-scope, confidence:0.99]
The proof boundary accepts identical operands, subtraction of zero, ordered unsigned literals, or an exact operand relationship in a conjunctive input predicate. Signed arithmetic, mixed widths, disjunction evidence, negation evidence, transitive reasoning, and alias propagation are outside this feature. The emitted
core.integer.subtract<T>retains operand order and width. [claim:unsigned-proof, confidence:1.00]Boolean
&&and||preserve ordered CoreAll/Anypredicate structure. The test checks the full comparison, including operator, input identity, and field order. [claim:predicate-structure, confidence:1.00]This PR implements source-to-Core compilation. Target validation/lowering and runtime execution remain separate work, including #214. It does not establish completion of Jim #302, and does not change Jim's producer locks. The independent security prerequisite #215 is merged; this PR targets
main. [claim:scope, confidence:0.99]Validation
All tests ran in Docker with copied source/history and no host repository mounts. The reusable worker used one Cargo target, four build jobs, and disabled incremental compilation.
UnsupportedSourceShapebefore implementation.unsigned_subtractiontests pass.LetoGepassed the old structure-only assertion and failed the strengthened assertion on the operator mismatch. Updated the integer-safety specification, compiler-spine contract/test matrix, and changelog. The current diff against
