fix(linux): retry PipeWire capture with the shared-memory format alone - #1446
On COSMIC, xdg-desktop-portal-cosmic picks the modifier-carrying EnumFormat even when it is offered second, but only offers MemFd buffers for it. Our Buffers param asks for DmaBuf only on that format, so allocation fails with error alloc buffers: Invalid argument. The shared-memory retry from #1069 offered the same two objects, so it failed the same way.
Change
The retry now offers the shm EnumFormat alone (n_params = 1), so the producer negotiates the plain, modifier-less format and the existing MemPtr|MemFd Buffers param applies.
The retry is armed whether or not the VAAPI DMA-BUF import is preferred, since the DMA-BUF object is offered (second) in both cases.
Adding MemFd|MemPtr to the Buffers param on a modifier format: per the report, COSMIC then delivers solid black frames, and the allocation would succeed, so the retry would never fire.
No new env variable.
Verified
Code review of the negotiation path only. The Linux build of the helper is left to the nix build check on this PR (my Linux box was unreachable).
Not verified
No COSMIC session available: the fix follows @jkbprwl's analysis and their working local patch, but has not been run on COSMIC. A test from them would be welcome.
Improved PipeWire screen capture recovery when buffer allocation fails. Capture now retries using shared-memory buffers only, whether or not DMA-BUF is preferred, rather than offering both buffer types during the retry.

Walkthrough
The PipeWire capture path retains a shared-memory fallback grant and retries format negotiation with only the shared-memory format after buffer allocation fails.

Summary
Shared-memory-only format negotiation electron/native/pipewire-capture/csrc/pw_shim.h, electron/native/pipewire-capture/csrc/pw_shim.c, electron/native/pipewire-capture/src/shim.rs
osc_pw_start and Session::start accept a shared-memory-only option. When enabled, the C shim offers only the shared-memory format and passes the selected format count to stream_connect.
Fallback grant and retry electron/native/pipewire-capture/src/main.rs, electron/native/pipewire-capture/src/shim.rs
begin_stream retains an available shared-memory fallback grant. Initial attempts pass false; the fallback retry passes true. The integration test passes false.
The retry consistently selects shared-memory negotiation and cannot retry indefinitely. No merge-blocking issue was identified; normal build checks remain necessary.

The title names the main change: the PipeWire capture retry now offers only the shared-memory format. It also tags the Linux scope and uses the conventional fix() prefix. It matches the changeset and the PR objectives, which describe the same retry change for COSMIC.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the template's main sections: Summary (as a Refs #1445 context and a Change list), a related issue line, and a Testing-style Verified/Not verified section. It explains the root cause, the change, and what was and was not verified. Several template fields are missing: no Type of change box is ticked, no Release impact is selected, no Desktop impact is selected (Linux applies), and no Screenshots section is filled. The Related issue line is 'Refs #1445' instead of the template's 'Fixes #' form, which is acceptable for a partial fix but the 'Fixes #' placeholder is still present. The Testing section is present but has no commands or environment steps for the Linux build.
Resolution
Non-critical items to complete: tick the Type of change (Bug fix), Release impact (Patch), and Desktop impact (Linux) boxes; remove or fill the empty 'Fixes #' line so it does not leave a blank placeholder; and add the build or test commands used under Testing. The Screenshots section can be marked as not applicable.

The current ignored integration test does not exercise shared_memory_only = true. A negotiated buffer-type assertion is insufficient because a producer can select the plain format when the modifier-carrying format is also offered.
Add a deterministic test seam around stream_connect that asserts this path offers exactly one plain EnumFormat. Keep the live PipeWire test separate from this assertion.

allocation failed and capture is retrying with shared-memory buffers, while

@EtienneLescot tested on COSMIC (Pop!_OS 24.04, xdg-desktop-portal-cosmic 1.11.0, PipeWire 1.6.8, AMD iGPU) with the helper built from 6687d86. It works: the first attempt still fails with error alloc buffers, then the retry negotiates uses_dmabuf=0 modifier=0x0 and records the screen correctly. Logs and details: #1445 (comment)
