Closes #412

What

  • A new package, internal/sqlite, opens a site's SQLite file from a sqlite: address. It never creates the file. A missing file gets an error that names the path and says to create an empty file there.
  • Each connection runs with foreign keys on and write-ahead logging. The busy timeout, cache size, connection cap, synchronous mode and journal size limit come from GOPHENBERG_DATABASE_MAX_CONNS and the new GOPHENBERG_SQLITE_* settings, each with a default.
  • Every connection gets three Go functions the queries will need: casefold, strip_field_path and strip_layout. The two strip functions do to a field document what the PostgreSQL functions of the same names do.
  • One migration, 00026, creates the whole core schema in SQLite form, on its own version table. It runs under a file lock, so two processes never migrate at once, and it needs the account tables first. JSON columns accept only valid JSON, boolean columns only 0 or 1, and three id columns use AUTOINCREMENT, so a deleted id is never handed out again.
  • A test in internal/postgres compares both schemas: tables, columns, types, defaults, keys, indexes, foreign key actions and CHECK definitions. Five indexes differ on purpose, each listed with its reason. The test also runs both strip functions on both engines over the same documents.
  • Lint lets only dbkit import a SQLite driver or call sql.Open. A few existing PostgreSQL files stay excluded until they move to dbkit/postgres.
  • CI runs the SQLite tests in their own job under the race detector, with their own coverage flag. Dependabot leaves the SQLite driver and its libc to dbkit releases. Local SQLite files stay out of git and the image.
  • Nothing calls the new package yet. The stores and the wiring come in later pull requests.

Why

Gophenberg should run on shared hosting from one SQLite file, with no database server. This first step adds the opener, the functions and the schema. The comparison test keeps the two schemas from drifting apart from now on.

Testing

  • make cover GOTESTFLAGS=-race: every package passes, coverage 100%.
  • make cover-sqlite GOTESTFLAGS=-race: the 56 SQLite tests pass, coverage 100%.
  • The comparison tests pass on PostgreSQL. Each check was seen failing against a schema changed to break it, such as a wider CHECK, a changed default, a missing JSON check, a missing AUTOINCREMENT, a unique index made plain and a reordered key.
  • A mutation run over the new package left two survivors, both equivalent to the original code.
  • Lint (also for darwin and windows), cyclop, doclint, gofmt and go mod tidy -diff are clean. CodeScene scores every new production file 10.0.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added SQLite database support, including configurable connection settings and migrations for the core content schema.
    • Added case-insensitive text matching and JSON document operations that remove field values or matching layout rows.
    • SQLite now supports the same core schema and document-stripping behavior as PostgreSQL.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Invalid database or migration settings, missing database files, and migration lock timeouts now return clear errors.

Routine version updates for two SQLite dependencies will not be proposed automatically, so maintainers must track and update them manually. This is a bounded maintenance follow-up, not a current runtime failure.

Keep security updates available for the SQLite dependencies.

These unqualified ignore rules suppress Dependabot update proposals for modernc.org/sqlite and modernc.org/libc, including versions that contain security fixes. If routine upgrades need review, constrain only the update types that cause that problem. Keep a path for security updates. (docs.github.com)

RetriggerConfidence Score: 5/5

[Critical impact] Safe to merge within the stated scope: this PR adds the SQLite foundation without changing application wiring, and no blocking findings remain.

T-Rex evidence

Evidence from the check

  • The previously executed in-package probe exercises the actual parity helpers and SQLite updates; it is staged for collection, but remote upload cannot be confirmed.

Evidence from the check

  • The previously executed wrapper runs the unchanged boolean regression test against both schema conditions; it is staged for collection, but remote upload cannot be confirmed.

Evidence from the check

  • The script used to execute and capture both schema conditions is staged for collection, but remote upload cannot be confirmed.

Command output from the check

  • The captured original-schema run shows passing probes and rejection of values 2 and 3; it is staged for collection, but remote upload cannot be confirmed.

Command output from the check

  • The captured widened-schema run shows parity passing and the existing boolean regression test failing; it is staged for collection, but remote upload cannot be confirmed.

Command output from the check

  • The captured initial attempt shows SQLite refusing direct catalog modification; it is staged for collection, but remote upload cannot be confirmed.

Summary

Adds the SQLite foundation without changing application wiring:

  • SQLite site files open without being created.
  • SQLite queries can strip field values and layout rows.
  • SQLite migration 00026 creates the site's core tables.
  • SQLite tests run in their own race-enabled CI job.

The earlier index-expression finding is fixed; expressions are now compared as text, with a test for a child sharing a top-level field's key. No blocking correctness or security issues remain.
