alt text

Features

  • Multi-Provider Support: Track usage for Gemini, Antigravity, Cursor, JetBrains AI, and Claude.
  • System Tray Icon: Runs quietly in the background; hover or click to check status.
  • Real-time Updates: Periodically fetches the latest usage data.
  • Detailed View: Tabbed settings window with detailed usage breakdown and reset times (in local time).

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.12+
  • uv (Recommended for dependency management) or pip.

Installation

  1. Clone this repository.
  2. Navigate to the directory:
    cd codexbar_window

Note

This project is a Windows port of CodexBar by @steipete.

  1. Install dependencies:
    uv sync
    # OR using pip
    pip install -r requirements.txt

Usage

Method 1: Run the Executable (Recommended)

After building (see below), simply run the generated executable:

./dist/CodexBar.exe
  • The app will appear in your system tray (Notification Area).
  • Left-Click or Right-Click -> Settings to open the dashboard.
  • Right-Click -> Quit to exit.

Building from Source

To create the standalone .exe file yourself:

  1. Install the build dependencies:
    uv add --dev pyinstaller
    # or
    pip install pyinstaller
  2. Run the build script:
    uv run build.py
  3. The executable will be created at dist/CodexBar.exe.

Method 2: Run via Python Source

If you prefer to run from source:

# Before building, or for development
uv run main.py

Provider Configuration

  • Claude: Requires claude CLI to be installed and authenticated.
  • Gemini: Requires oauth_creds.json or authenticated gcloud CLI.
  • JetBrains: Automatically detects AI Assistant usage if you use JetBrains IDEs.
  • Antigravity: Automatically detects the running local process.

Troubleshooting

  • Tray Icon Not Visible: Check your "Hidden Icons" menu (^) in the taskbar.
  • Crash on Startup: ensure all dependencies in requirements.txt are installed.
