This is my bio site source code. The idea was to create a PoC of an SSR application using Next.js and Tailwind.

The application was built with i18n in mind, currently serving two languages: English and Portuguese.

Challenges Found

Next.js v16

Upgrading to v16 required new TypeScript typings due to how Layout pages work. This included needing to type a constant as an array of strings because inference did not work by default, and typing the object used for internationalization.

These changes were made in commit 834520b1141ed8b0eeaf784170555e3b2887b367.

Next.js v15

During development, I found some limitations relevant to this project. For instance, when using output: "export" in Next.js configuration, access to many Next.js features like middlewares is lost.

Also, creating a 404 page with internationalized text using the App Router is quite difficult due to the need to know all path/param values ahead of time.

I have not implemented this feature on this project yet as I am still researching it. Related issues include:

• NodeJS v20 (lts/iron)

How to Run

1. Clone the repo

git clone https://github.com/mesaquen/mesaquen.github.io.git
# or if you're using GitHub CLI
gh repo clone mesaquen/mesaquen.github.io

2. Install dependencies

# in the /mesaquen.github.io directory
npm i

3. Start the server

npm run dev
