Mobile release-candidate performance and safety pass. Pins mobile-pro on the same branch and pairs with the shared PR on the same branch name.

Storage safety

  • Failed reads: stores no longer open their write gate after a failed read (Zustand calls the hydration callback with an error). Before, an empty store could overwrite saved chat history. Applied to chat, app, auth, project, remote-server and whisper stores.
  • Failed writes: a snapshot counts as saved only after its write commits, so a failed write of the same content is retried.
  • Android storage cap: AsyncStorage_db_size_in_MB=64. The default is 6 MB, and history was measured at 5.79 MB.
  • Write coalescing was dropped. It broke stableIdentity.integration.test.ts, which checks that a relaunch right after a change keeps it. The real fix for full-history rewrites is the deferred SQLite chat store.

RAG

  • Indexes: idx_rag_embeddings_doc_id, idx_rag_chunks_doc_id_position, idx_rag_documents_project_id_enabled.
  • Atomic deletes: per-document and per-project deletes run in one transaction.
  • Vector cache: a 16 MB LRU of decoded Float32Array vectors, used only when its embedding ids match the live query. The query adds ORDER BY e.id so tied results keep their pre-index order.

Pro (submodule)

WAL for the sync store; chat projection repair skips messages already shown.

Compatibility

  • Baselines: v0.0.114-beta.1 (newest) and stable v0.0.111.
  • The stored JSON format is unchanged, and an old-format snapshot loads.
  • Index creation is idempotent. The RAG upgrade test opens databases written by older releases (with and without sync_id) and keeps every row.

Verification (local)

  • Checks: eslint, tsc, tsc -p pro, depcruise and knip pass.
  • Jest: 8,355 passed. stableIdentity passed after coalescing was dropped.
  • Known local-only failures:
    • releaseScriptsE: GNU vs BSD mktemp on Linux; CI runs on macOS.
    • releaseCandidateE M5: a timeout.
    • speakAfterVoiceModelUnload: missing navigation context under parallel workers.
  • Please confirm on an Android device: legacy AsyncStorage reads each value through a SQLite cursor, often capped at 2 MB per row. A single ~4.9 MB chat value may be why reads fail in the first place, and raising the size cap doesn't change that.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Search results remain consistent after document updates, deletions, and project changes, with more reliable handling of stored embeddings.
    • Local data is marked as ready only after successful restoration, reducing the risk of changes being lost when storage reads fail.
  • Improvements
    • Increased the Android local storage limit to 64 MB.
    • Similarity scoring supports typed-array vectors as well as standard arrays.
    • Existing databases retain search behavior when upgraded.

… RAG vectors

- Stores never open their write gate after a failed read, so an empty store
can no longer overwrite saved history; a snapshot counts as saved only after
its write commits, so a failed write is retried.
- Android AsyncStorage size cap raised to 64 MB (history was at 5.79 MB of 6).
- RAG: indexes on embeddings(doc_id), chunks(doc_id, position) and
documents(project_id, enabled); per-document deletes are atomic; decoded
vectors are cached (16 MB LRU) and checked against the live embedding ids,
with the original tie order pinned.
- Pro: sync store uses WAL; chat projection repair skips shown messages.

📝 Walkthrough

The change updates RAG embedding decoding, vector caching, retrieval, and mutation handling. It also changes persisted-state hydration, adds sync integration tests, raises the Android AsyncStorage database cap, and updates the pro subproject reference.

Changes: RAG embedding retrieval

Layer / File(s) Summary
Typed vector representation
src/services/rag/database.ts, src/services/rag/vectorMath.ts, __tests__/unit/services/rag/database.test.ts
Embedding decoding returns Float32Array values and handles typed-array offsets and unaligned slices. Vector scoring functions accept ArrayLike<number> inputs.
Cached embedding retrieval
src/services/rag/database.ts
The database adds lookup indexes and a bounded per-document vector cache. Retrieval orders embedding IDs, reuses vectors when IDs match, and aligns vectors with requested IDs.
Mutation handling and retrieval validation
src/services/rag/database.ts, __tests__/integration/rag/*
Document and project mutations invalidate cached vectors, and deletions use transactions. Integration tests cover search consistency, mutations, scoped reads, and legacy database upgrades.

Persisted-state hydration

Layer / File(s) Summary
Snapshot write tracking
src/utils/hydrationGatedStorage.ts, __tests__/unit/utils/hydrationGatedStorage.test.ts
Storage tracks issued and saved snapshots separately. Successful writes update the saved snapshot. Tests cover failures, retries, restart behavior, and serialized format compatibility.
Hydration gate handling
src/utils/hydrationGatedStorage.ts, src/stores/*Store.ts, __tests__/unit/utils/hydrationGatedStorage.test.ts
Persisted selections and six stores mark hydration complete only when rehydration reports no error. Tests cover failed reads and successful retries.

Chat projection repair coverage

Layer / File(s) Summary
Projection repair integration tests
__tests__/pro/sync/chatProjectionRepair.integration.test.ts
Integration tests cover repair after relaunch, repeated repair, concurrent deletion, narrator-message exclusion, and repair scoped to one conversation.

Known-device reconnect state

Layer / File(s) Summary
Reconnect message integration test
__tests__/pro/sync/KnownDevicesSection.integration.test.tsx
The test checks that a reconnect failure message disappears after the device reports a connected, on-network state.

Android storage cap

Layer / File(s) Summary
AsyncStorage database limit
android/gradle.properties
The configuration sets AsyncStorage_db_size_in_MB to 64 and documents the default and configured limits.

Pro subproject reference

Layer / File(s) Summary
Pro commit reference
pro
The subproject reference changes to commit 28b7ef69ecc21b1c85a4d0b92fde91bcd84b9ae1.

A typed-array BLOB can be a view into a larger (pooled) buffer; decoding
blob.buffer read the wrong values and length, and the vector cache would keep
them. Read byteOffset/byteLength, copying when the offset is unaligned.

A zero-copy view of a slice kept the whole pooled buffer alive while the
vector cache counted only the slice, so the 16 MB bound could be exceeded.
Keep zero-copy only when the BLOB owns its whole buffer.
