Use date-only recurrence rules with configurable instance execution time - #792
Recurring calendar selections no longer change when the browser's UTC offset crosses a day or month boundary. Rules keep their calendar fields in PostgreSQL's cron.timezone; the operator sets one execution time for the instance.
Remove the recurrence time picker and browser-offset cron conversion, preserving the last-day marker.
Add RECURRENCE_TIME (HH:mm, default 00:00). Instrumentation reconciles existing expense jobs at startup; new and edited rules use the same time. Maintenance jobs and inactive status are preserved.
Make the database zone configurable through RECURRENCE_TIME_ZONE in production/development Compose, defaulting to UTC.
Show the next scheduled run in the browser's local date, time and zone in the editor, recurring list and expense details. Resolve the occurrence in the database zone before formatting it, so previews account for date boundaries and DST.
Migrate existing schedules to date-only calendar rules and persist the last occurrence date. Serialize generation per recurrence and skip initial/future expense dates, already-consumed days and retries after deletion.
The migration preserves stored calendar fields and historical expenses. Previously shifted rules cannot be reconstructed reliably because the creator's original zone and intent were not stored; existing first/last-day rules need review after upgrading.
Ordinary expense dates still use timestamps. The initial-expense guard interprets them in the instance calendar, which can differ from the browser-selected date. A full application-wide SQL DATE / YYYY-MM-DD conversion remains separate work. Missed days during database downtime are not backfilled.
Validation
Full unit suite: 482 tests passed.
PostgreSQL integration suite: 28 tests passed, including same-day/future-date suppression, retries after deletion, configured execution time, startup reconciliation and maintenance/inactive-job preservation.
All migrations applied successfully to a dedicated disposable PostgreSQL database.
Repository-wide formatting, lint and TypeScript checks passed.
Production build passed.
Production Compose configuration validated with defaults, custom settings and shell overrides.
Final commit passed the repository's pre-commit hooks.
Demo
With an instance schedule of January 1 at 02:35 UTC, a browser in America/Los_Angeles shows the next run as December 31 at 18:35. The instance calendar rule stays January 1, and the configured schedule appears underneath the local preview.

Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Recurring expenses now follow calendar-based schedules, with a configurable run time and time zone. The default is midnight UTC.
Expense details and recurrence settings show the next scheduled run in your local time, alongside the schedule’s time zone.
Recurring expenses are created at most once per recurrence per calendar day, including after retries or deletion of a generated expense.
Documentation
Added guidance for configuring recurrence time and time zone. Changes to these settings require recreating the relevant containers.

Walkthrough
Recurrence schedules now use calendar dates with a shared instance execution time and PostgreSQL cron time zone. The change adds date-based duplicate prevention, startup schedule reconciliation, and previews that show the next run in the browser’s local time.
The migration adds and backfills lastOccurrenceDate. The duplication function checks the initial expense date and saved occurrence date, locks the recurrence row, and records the current instance-calendar date before creating a duplicate. Integration tests cover future-dated expenses, concurrent attempts, and repeated attempts on the same day.

Cron inputs retain calendar fields and normalize last-day notation. Recurrence jobs use the configured execution time, and startup reconciliation updates schedules that differ from that setting. Environment, deployment, and configuration guidance describes the time-zone and permission settings.
The protected preview query returns the time zone, schedule, and next run. The preview component displays loading or unavailable text when needed; otherwise, it shows the schedule and formats the next run in the browser’s locale and time zone.

A cron permission or database error during startup reconciliation can prevent the server from finishing startup. Editing an existing yearly rule with a day range can silently narrow it to a single day. Rules that combine weekday with month or day-of-month can no longer be created. Address these before merging.

Explanation
The implementation meets the coding requirements for [#698] and [#762]. The migration preserves the day, month, weekday, and last-day fields while setting only the execution time. duplicate_expense_with_participants locks the recurrence, rejects occurrences on or before the initial expense date, and records the consumed calendar date. The integration tests cover future and same-day initial expenses, concurrent generation, deletion retries, and $ last-day schedules. New and edited rules pass through the configured execution-time logic, and last-day selections remain stored as $ rather than day 1.

Catch reconciliation errors so startup continues.
await reconcileRecurrenceSchedules() has no error handler. The transaction rejects on any thrown error, such as a database error during the FOR UPDATE lock or a failed cron.alter_job call. That rejection escapes register(). The validateAuthEnv() call, the notification check, and the cache-cleanup job setup later in register() do not run. Catching the error lets startup continue. The transaction rolls back, and affected schedules keep their previous times until a later reconcile succeeds.

Restore the custom schedule type so combined day-of-week rules can be created.
Removing custom from SCHEDULE_TYPES leaves no editor path for expressions that combine a day-of-week field with a day-of-month or month field. An example is every Monday in March, 0 0 * 3 1. Weekday rules and multiple-days-per-month rules still work through the week and month types. Those types offer multi-select day controls.
For new rules, the custom branch is reached only when an existing expression fails to parse into a known type. Restoring the entry brings back the three-field input for these combinations.

Preserve unsupported yearly fields in custom mode.
For 0 0 1-5 1 *, parseNumbers converts 1-5 to 1. The new yearly branch then serializes the rule as 0 0 1 1 *, so saving can narrow the recurrence to January 1. Route ranges and multi-value fields that the selects cannot represent to the custom editor before numeric parsing.
A list such as 0 0 1,15 * * is preserved on the initial serialization, but changing its single-value day select discards 15. The yearly branch is new in this PR; the merge base fell back to custom for yearly expressions.

Description
Based on the feedback in #778
Recurring calendar selections no longer change when the browser's UTC offset crosses a day or month boundary. Rules keep their calendar fields in PostgreSQL's
cron.timezone; the operator sets one execution time for the instance.RECURRENCE_TIME(HH:mm, default00:00). Instrumentation reconciles existing expense jobs at startup; new and edited rules use the same time. Maintenance jobs and inactive status are preserved.RECURRENCE_TIME_ZONEin production/development Compose, defaulting to UTC.Closes #698
Closes #762
Migration and scope
The migration preserves stored calendar fields and historical expenses. Previously shifted rules cannot be reconstructed reliably because the creator's original zone and intent were not stored; existing first/last-day rules need review after upgrading.
Ordinary expense dates still use timestamps. The initial-expense guard interprets them in the instance calendar, which can differ from the browser-selected date. A full application-wide SQL DATE /
YYYY-MM-DDconversion remains separate work. Missed days during database downtime are not backfilled.Validation
Demo
With an instance schedule of January 1 at 02:35 UTC, a browser in America/Los_Angeles shows the next run as December 31 at 18:35. The instance calendar rule stays January 1, and the configured schedule appears underneath the local preview.
