Summary

• Detect the comparison base from existing repository refs, including master and custom defaults, without fetching or mutating tracking refs.
• Add a persisted per-repository comparison branch picker and display the actual base.
• Isolate summary/file caches across branch and repository switches while preserving three-dot comparisons and last-step invalidation.

Addresses #395

Validation

• 62 targeted backend/frontend tests passed, including real Git repositories, missing defaults, SSH command routing, stale responses and repository switching.
• TypeScript checks, native Bun type checks, changed-file formatting and production web build passed.
• Lint passed with an existing TerminalView hook warning.
• Full suite: 3515 passed, 4 skipped, 280 failed in this environment. Every failing test name also failed on the clean base checkout (283 baseline failures), primarily socket-listener failures; this is not a full-suite pass.
• Rebased onto current main and reran targeted tests and native type checks.

Manual browser QA and testing against a live SSH host remain outstanding.
