What

Adds content-write-changelog to .claude/skills/: one skill that writes the entry for prisma.io/changelog and opens its pull request.

It replaces three skills that lived outside this repo: the release notes writer used with Loggy, and content-write-changelog plus content-publish-changelog in prisma/ignite. All three had drifted from how the last entries were actually written. This one sits next to the changelog and treats the two newest entries as its samples.

#8381 (the 2026-10-02 entry) was written with it.

What is in the skill

  • SKILL.md: the nine-step workflow from setting the window to opening the pull request, the rules that always apply, and the checklist.
  • references/gathering.md: new. How to find the repositories, list what merged, and tell merged from released for each product.
  • references/filtering.md: the four verdicts, with the rules for private repositories, unreleased work, security fixes, and incidents.
  • references/voice.md: explain each change from the reader's side instead of listing it like a spec. It builds on docs-reader-review (explain, do not state; the signs of AI writing; the banned terms) and adds what is specific to the changelog: titles, impact order, and when to use prose or a list.
  • references/structure.md: the structure the 2026-08-28 and 2026-10-02 entries use, including "What you need to do", buttons, images, and the pull request body.
  • scripts/check-entry.mjs: new. Checks the frontmatter, compiles the MDX, finds missing images and private pull request links, and with --links checks every link and anchor against production.

What changed from the source skills

  • The entry gets a reader review before the pull request. The workflow runs the three docs-reader-review scripts and a cold-reader round. docs(site): add changelog entry 2026-10-02 #8381 went through three rounds.
  • The structure follows the published entries. Outcome headings, a "What you need to do" section, and buttons replace the ### New · highlight format, which no entry has used since August.
  • Publishing is part of the same skill. The separate publish skill is folded into the last two steps.
  • Product names and maturity are checked at write time against the docs and the positioning doc, instead of being fixed in the skill, where they went stale.
  • The Slack summary output is dropped. It belongs to Loggy's own pipeline.
  • No samples are copied in. The live entries are the samples.

Kept out of this public repo

Internal names, private repository names, and the positioning doc are not in the skill. It reads positioning from prisma/ignite, the same way content-write-blog does, and it finds the repository list by topic at run time.

Review focus

  • Whether references/filtering.md is strict enough for a public changelog.
  • Whether the two skills in prisma/ignite should now be removed or point here. That is a separate change and is not part of this pull request.

Checks

  • check-entry.mjs passes on the 2026-08-28 and 2026-10-02 entries with --links, and reports the expected findings on two deliberately broken files.
  • The five CodeRabbit findings are fixed in the second commit.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Added a documented workflow for preparing changelog entries, from reviewing merged changes and confirming release status to drafting, reviewing, and opening a pull request.
    • Added guidance for deciding which changes are user-visible, verifying public sources, handling screenshots, and flagging items that need review.
    • Added checks for entry formatting, dates, links, images, and other content requirements before submission.

…log entry

Merges the two changelog skills kept outside this repo (the release notes
writer used with Loggy, and content-write-changelog plus
content-publish-changelog from prisma/ignite) into one skill that lives
next to the changelog it writes. It follows the structure of the two
newest entries, adds a gathering reference and a checker script, and
keeps internal names, private repository names, and positioning out of
this public repo.

Walkthrough

The change adds a content-write-changelog skill for researching and writing dated changelog entries. It includes candidate triage and authoring guidance, an MDX entry checker, and README documentation for the skill.

.claude/skills/README.md, .claude/skills/content-write-changelog/SKILL.md, .claude/skills/content-write-changelog/references/gathering.md, .claude/skills/content-write-changelog/references/filtering.md
Defines prerequisites, candidate discovery, release verification, and decisions to publish, rewrite, flag, or exclude candidates. The README lists the skill and summarizes its workflow.
Entry and pull-request authoring
.claude/skills/content-write-changelog/references/structure.md, .claude/skills/content-write-changelog/references/voice.md
Specifies entry structure, frontmatter, content and formatting rules, reader-focused wording, and pull-request templates.
MDX entry validation
.claude/skills/content-write-changelog/scripts/check-entry.mjs
Validates entry metadata and content, compiles MDX, and optionally checks links. It prints findings and exits with a nonzero status when checks fail.

…findings

The first entry written with the skill read like a spec: clipped
sentences, bold labels on every bullet, and vocabulary from the release
notes. The voice reference now builds on docs-reader-review (explain,
do not state; the signs of AI writing; the banned terms), and the
workflow adds its three checker scripts and a cold-reader round before
the pull request.

Also from review: paginate the repository search, take the window from
step 1 in the pull request command, reject impossible dates, check pull
request links, and say what counts as a source for a change built in a
private repository.

A slow or rate-limited response is not a broken link, and forty pull
request links checked one at a time took minutes.
