pydoc lists the backquote as a symbol, but help() has no documentation for it #161414

Bug report

Bug description:

pydoc.Helper.symbols maps the backquote to the BACKQUOTES topic. That topic documented Python 2's `x` shorthand for repr(x), and was removed along with the syntax, but the symbol entry was left behind. The backquote is still listed by help('symbols'), yet asking for help on it fails:

>>> help('`')
no documentation found for 'BACKQUOTES'

On the main branch, the new symbols.html page of the pydoc HTML server (python -m pydoc -b) also links to it, and the link leads to an error page ("ValueError: could not find object").

The backquote is not valid syntax in Python 3, so the entry can be removed. It is the only entry in Helper.symbols that does not lead to documentation.

CPython versions tested on:

3.12, CPython main branch
