Written because MARA is about to incorporate parser code from this repo, and the right to do that existed only by implication.

Why it needs saying

equasis-cli is PolyForm-Noncommercial 1.0.0, and LICENSING.md names "building a paid product or service" as requiring a separate commercial licence. MARA is exactly that.

You are the copyright holder and a principal of AB//LABS, so the permission is yours to give and effectively already existed. But a reader of this repo could not tell, and neither could anyone reviewing MARA's provenance — "we copied from a PolyForm-NC repo" with no recorded grant is a real finding in a diligence pass, and the shared ownership is not visible from either side.

What it says

Uses the same "additional permission" pattern this file already applies to journalism and nonprofit research, so it sits in the established structure rather than inventing one.

Scoped deliberately:

  • runs to AB//LABS only
  • covers using the code inside AB//LABS products, including commercial ones
  • does not permit reselling equasis-cli, or a modified version of it, as a standalone product or service
  • changes nothing for any other user

Context

Found while fixing MARA's Equasis parser (atlas-bear/mara#1224). The classification parser there had never worked — it was reading a table heading — and your _parse_classification shows the correct structure. I derived MARA's current fix from a saved HTML page rather than from this code, specifically to avoid relying on an unrecorded permission. With this merged, the port can use the code directly.

equasis-cli is PolyForm-Noncommercial 1.0.0, and LICENSING.md names "building a
paid product or service" as requiring a separate commercial license. MARA is
exactly that, and it is now going to incorporate parser code from here.

The licensor is the copyright holder and a principal of AB//LABS, so the right
already exists -- but it existed only by implication. A reader of this repo could
not tell, and neither could anyone reviewing MARA's provenance: "we copied from a
PolyForm-NC repo" with no recorded grant is a real finding in a diligence pass,
and the fact that both sides share an owner is not visible from either side.

So it is written down, using the same "additional permission" pattern this file
already uses for journalism and nonprofit research.

Scoped deliberately: it runs to AB//LABS only, covers using the code INSIDE
AB//LABS products, and does not permit reselling equasis-cli or a modified
version of it as a product in its own right. Nothing changes for any other user.
