Reason: Add a direct MiniMax text provider with MiniMax-M3.1-Flash as the default and first model choice, followed by MiniMax-M3.

Summary

The AI provider factory and CLI can select MiniMax using MINIMAX_API_KEY, with global/CN endpoint selection and explicit base URL overrides. Ordinary model choices are MiniMax-M3.1-Flash and MiniMax-M3; explicitly configured legacy and custom model IDs remain valid.

Changes

  • Add and export the MiniMax provider, register configuration detection and model choices, and connect it to the CLI provider options.
  • Use MiniMax-M3.1-Flash by default and send max_completion_tokens while preserving configured output limits, model IDs, URLs, and conversation messages.
  • Leave thinking and effort unspecified so the API applies its supported defaults. Do not inject service_tier or reasoning_split.
  • Test the serialized requests from the factory through the fetch boundary for global/CN defaults, explicit MiniMax-M3, legacy and custom models, URL precedence, and multi-turn text history.

Testing

  • node node_modules/vitest/vitest.mjs run --root packages/core src/ai --maxWorkers=2 --minWorkers=1: 8 files, 99 tests passed, including 20 MiniMax tests. Used cached Vitest 2.1.9 and dependency versions matching the lockfile in a credential-free environment.
  • git diff --check: passed. Credential-pattern scan: passed.
  • Full workspace build, typecheck, and tests have not been completed for this revision. Heavy dependency setup/builds are paused due to available disk capacity. An optional small dependency setup for additional validation could not acquire the shared install lock; its queued retry was canceled. The focused AI suite ran using existing caches.
  • Exact-head CI for 6c83dcf7bed6335e57d12a4b7599cb5d2bde9617 requires maintainer approval: https://github.com/rohitg00/skillkit/actions/runs/39431641029 (action_required). Both Vercel deployment checks require authorization. These checks do not establish a build/test pass.
  • Requests were tested with mocked fetch responses; no paid inference or live regional API validation was performed.

Add MiniMax as a first-class LLM provider alongside Anthropic, OpenAI,
Google, Ollama, and OpenRouter. The new MiniMaxProvider reuses the
existing OpenAI-compatible chat-completion request/response flow with
provider-specific defaults:

- MINIMAX_API_KEY detection in detectProviders, getDefaultProvider,
  isProviderConfigured, and getProviderEnvVars
- MiniMax-M3 (default) and MiniMax-M2.7 model choices in getProviderModels
- Selectable global (https://api.minimax.io/v1) and CN
  (https://api.minimaxi.com/v1) base URLs via MINIMAX_REGION or
  MINIMAX_BASE_URL

Wire the new provider through the factory switch, providers index, the
AIConfig and ProviderName unions, and the CLI provider selection notes
and --provider help text. Add tests covering configuration detection,
base URL selection, the OpenAI-compatible request shape, and factory
integration.

The new MiniMax provider works as described. If someone configures an http:// base URL, their API key and conversation text would be sent unencrypted. This is a small, bounded issue. Consider rejecting non-HTTPS URLs before merging or as a follow-up.

Provider-precedence logic duplicated with factory.ts.

This nested ternary re-encodes the same provider precedence and env-var mapping that getDefaultProvider()/getProviderEnvVars() in factory.ts already centralize (this PR had to update both places to add MiniMax). Consider deriving provider/apiKey from those exports instead, to avoid drift as new providers are added.

Fix the MiniMax provider comment to avoid overstoring reuse.

BaseAIProvider only shares search/generation prompts and parsers, not the OpenAI-compatible chat-completions HTTP plumbing. Since MiniMaxProvider.makeRequest() duplicates the fetch/AbortController/error handling already present in OpenAIProvider and OpenRouterProvider, either remove the claim of reusing existing OpenAI-compatible request/response logic or extract that shared plumbing into a common helper/base class. Applies to lines 46-69 and 211-240.

🟡 Minor · Enforce HTTPS for configured base URLs. · minimax.ts:36-44

packages/core/src/ai/providers/minimax.ts:36-44
🔒 Security & Privacy | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Enforce HTTPS for configured base URLs.

resolveMiniMaxBaseUrl accepts any value from configBaseUrl or MINIMAX_BASE_URL. makeRequest then sends Authorization: Bearer <apiKey> to that URL. An http:// URL sends the API key and conversation content in plain text. Reject non-HTTPS URLs, or fail closed, before the request. Allow a loopback host only if local proxies must be supported.

Proposed fix
+function normalizeMiniMaxUrl(url: string): string {
+  const normalized = url.replace(/\/$/, '');
+  if (!/^https:\/\//i.test(normalized)) {
+    throw new Error('MiniMax base URL must use HTTPS');
+  }
+  return normalized;
+}
+
 function resolveMiniMaxBaseUrl(configBaseUrl?: string): string {
-  if (configBaseUrl) return configBaseUrl.replace(/\/$/, '');
-  if (process.env.MINIMAX_BASE_URL) return process.env.MINIMAX_BASE_URL.replace(/\/$/, '');
+  if (configBaseUrl) return normalizeMiniMaxUrl(configBaseUrl);
+  if (process.env.MINIMAX_BASE_URL) return normalizeMiniMaxUrl(process.env.MINIMAX_BASE_URL);

Based on learnings: when an API key is sent over a configurable base URL, enforce HTTPS and fail closed on non-HTTPS URLs.
