Telco Network Cloud Reference

Note

Ensure to include --recurse-submodules option while cloning this repo in order to pick the content from the git sub-modules included in the repository.

git clone --recurse-submodules https://github.com/openshift-kni/telco-reference.git -b tnc7.0-release-4.22

Description

This repository contains the reference configurations (installation artifacts as wells as configuration policies) for the different sub-architectures under the Telco Network Cloud (TNC) reference architecture. The figure below shows the high level view of the TNC reference architecture along with its sub-architectures:

tnc arch

TNC uses the reference configuration, provided by the telco Reference Design Specification (RDS), as baseline and adds services/integrations to augment the RDS.

How to Use

The directories specific to each sub-architecture provide the configuration files needed to fully deploy and configure an OpenShift cluster with the design specified for the relevant sub-architecture.

Each sub-architecture uses the telco Reference Design Specification (RDS) as its base and adds the TNC sub-architecture components to the base. To ensure alignment with the RDS, the RDS reference CRs are being included in the TNC repo as GIT sub-modules. This allows users to pick the TNC+RDS artifacts as they were verified for the specific TNC release.

Note

Users forking/cloning this GIT repository would need to remove the GIT sub-modules and copy the reference CRs locally within each <sub-architecture>/configuration directory before pushing the content to their private GIT repos, otherwise they may run into issues with ArgoCD not being able to sync content from GIT:

git clone --recurse-submodules https://github.com/openshift-kni/telco-reference.git -b tnc-7.0-release-4.22
cd telco-reference
#
# For each sub-architecture in the repo, follow these steps:
#
cd tnc-reference/<sub-architecture>/configuration
# Remove the soft link
rm reference-crs

# copy the reference-crs out of the sub-module content
# For the MGMT-ZTP, CWL, AIWL, VEWL and RHOSO sub-architectures:
cp -R telco-reference/telco-core/configuration/reference-crs .

OR

# For the GHUB and MGMT sub-architectures:
cp -R telco-reference/telco-hub/configuration/reference-crs .

# Remove the sub-module content
rm -rf telco-reference

# End repeat for each sub-architecture
#
# remove GIT sub-modules
# Go back to the top level
cd ../../..
git submodule deinit tnc-reference/tnc-ghub/configuration/telco-reference
git submodule deinit tnc-reference/tnc-mgmt/configuration/telco-reference
git submodule deinit tnc-reference/tnc-mgmt-ztp/configuration/telco-reference
git submodule deinit tnc-reference/tnc-cwl/configuration/telco-reference
git submodule deinit tnc-reference/tnc-aiwl/configuration/telco-reference
git submodule deinit tnc-reference/tnc-vewl/configuration/telco-reference
git submodule deinit tnc-reference/tnc-rhoso/configuration/telco-reference
rm .submodule
rm -rf .git/modules

Now the repo has no sub-modules and can be pushed to local/private git repo without causing issues for ArgoCD sync.
