The mock memory API now honours a cascade option on forget, defaulting to derived_only so events survive unless redact_events is requested, and rejects unknown values with INVALID_CASCADE. It also serves memory-api's scoped erasure endpoints, erasing a scope and everything below it synchronously and refusing root erasures. Auto-committed-on: macbook Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
The memory engine fixture now returns zero deleted events when the requested cascade is not redact_events, matching CortexDB's default derived_only behaviour that keeps events intact. Auto-committed-on: macbook Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Reformatted long expressions and method chains across the memory channels, composio source, and their tests so they match rustfmt's line-width rules. No behaviour changed. Auto-committed-on: macbook Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
The memory README now covers hard deletes, including connector scope erasure, redaction cascades, and the pending-deletion queue drained on sign-in and background ticks. It also lists deletion.rs and the new pending_deletions.json state file so the documented layout matches the subsystem. Auto-committed-on: macbook Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>

Propagate queue persistence failures
enqueue only logs filesystem errors and returns (). If workspace_dir is unwritable, pending_deletions.json cannot be written, yet this branch returns Ok(0). The source can then be removed from configuration while its engine data remains undeleted and no retry is recorded. Make enqueue report whether persistence succeeded and return that error instead of claiming the deletion was queued.

Replace the queue file portably on Windows
On Windows, std::fs::rename(&temp, &file) generally fails when file already exists, unlike Unix rename semantics. The first enqueue creates the queue, but a second enqueue or a drain that rewrites a non-empty queue can therefore fail at the rename and leave the old queue unchanged; the new deletion is only logged as a warning and is lost from the durable queue. Use a replacement operation that works on Windows (or an established atomic-file helper) and handle its error without dropping the updated queue.

Do not queue deletion of a shared thread without ownership checks
When two channels record the same thread_id, forgetting one channel queues PendingDeletion::Thread if memory is off or a forget fails. The queued operation is keyed only by the thread, so the later drain cannot tell that another channel still owns that thread and can delete the other channel's conversations as well. The new documentation explicitly says conversations share their chat node with other channels, making this a reachable cross-channel data-loss case. Queue channel-scoped ownership or have the drain re-check current channel ownership before deleting the thread.

Scope queued deletions to the disconnected channel
The pending deletion stores only thread_id, while the drain path later forgets every conversation matching that thread. If the channel reconnects and brings the same thread back before the next sign-in/drain, that newly received conversation is indistinguishable from the stale data and will be deleted. This contradicts the documented guarantee that later channel activity is not caught by the queue and can cause user data loss. Persist the channel identity with the pending deletion or otherwise verify current ownership before applying the queued deletion.

Invalidate recall packs when erasing scoped events
Recall packs contain rendered copies of events and can still be supplied to /memory/answer after this scoped erasure removes the underlying events. A caller holding a previously issued pack_id can therefore retrieve content that was explicitly erased. Clear or otherwise invalidate affected packs as part of the erasure.
Additional critique observation
Invalidate packs when erasing their source events
[RULE] stale-derived-data
store.packs contains the rendered event objects returned by recall, so deleting the events alone does not delete their copies. A caller can recall a scope, erase it, and then call /memory/answer with the old use_pack_id to retrieve erased content. Invalidate packs as part of scoped erasure (clearing all packs is the safe option for this mock).
Suggested change for this observation (reference only)
store.events = store.events.filter((e) => !held.includes(e.scope));
store.packs.clear();

Preserve deletions when writing the queue fails
When write fails, the caller continues as though the queue update succeeded. In particular, forget_thread can return after memory is off or unavailable while the requested deletion was never persisted, so a restart permanently loses the retry. Return or propagate the write failure, or retain the existing queue and use a durable fallback so every failed deletion remains retryable.

Keep corrupted deletion records retryable
Renaming an unparsable queue to .corrupt removes it from the only path that pending and drain read, and nothing ever restores or processes that file. Any deletion records surviving partial corruption are therefore abandoned permanently, contrary to the deletion guarantee. Preserve recoverable entries or retain the corrupt file in a retryable/quarantined queue that is surfaced for recovery.

Add an end-to-end test for thread deletion reaching memory
Deleting a chat thread now also deletes (or queues deletion of) its conversation memory — an external surface a user exercises from the UI/RPC. No end-to-end test drives this: the changed test files are Rust unit tests and mock-server node tests, and the Playwright/desktop suites (e.g. chat-conversation-history) were not extended. A test would have to delete a thread through the running app while signed in against a backend exposing memory, then recall/fetch from the memory engine and assert the thread's conversation items are gone; and while signed out, delete a thread, sign back in, and assert the drain removed the queued item. Without it, a regression that silently drops or never drains the queue ships unnoticed.

Cover the sign-in drain of pending deletions end to end
The new memory::pending_deletions subscriber drains the queue on CredentialChanged (sign-in) and on every background tick — behaviour reachable only through the running system: disconnect a connector or delete a thread while signed out, verify pending_deletions. is written, sign back in, and verify the engine no longer holds the items and the queue is empty. No end-to-end spec or harness covers any of this; the queue file format (<workspace>/memory/pending_deletions.) is a persisted format with no test driving it. If the subscriber is never registered or the event never fires, the deletions silently never run.

Remove the deletion from the queue only after it succeeds.
drain removes each entry from pending_deletions.json before it awaits run. run makes a network call to the engine. The process can stop during that call, for example when the app quits, crashes or the machine sleeps. If it stops there, nothing writes the entry back to the queue. The engine keeps the user's deleted thread, connection or source data, and no later drain retries it.
This breaks the module's guarantee to retry each deletion "until it succeeds".
Keep the entry in the queue while run executes. Call settle only on Ok. Queue entries are deduplicated, and each deletion is idempotent, so running it twice after a stop is safe.

Reject invalid cascades in the Rust fixture.
If cascade is "everything", this fixture returns success and reports zero deletions. scripts/mock-api/routes/memory.mjs returns 400 INVALID_CASCADE for the same request. Reject values other than "derived_only" and "redact_events" here so fixture-backed tests cannot accept an invalid request.

Invalidate recall packs when erasing scoped events
This operation still sends only a conversation MetaFilter to forget; it does not invalidate recall packs that were built from those events. A successful channel forget can therefore leave stale packs retrievable after the source conversations have been erased. Include the required pack invalidation/redaction cascade in this path.

Preserve deletions when writing the queue fails
Kept from the earlier revision: settle removes the entry from the list before knowing the write succeeded. If write fails (disk full, permission error), the deletion is gone from memory and from disk, and a hard delete the user requested is silently dropped. Have write report success and re-insert (or not remove) on failure. Severity unchanged from medium.

Propagate queue persistence failures
Still stands: enqueue on a failed write logs a warning and returns, so the caller believes the deletion is owed-to-engine while nothing is recorded — the deletion is silently lost until the same trigger recurs. Deletion persistence is a data-destruction guarantee; a failed write should surface to the caller (return a MemoryResult from enqueue) so the caller can fail or retry loudly. Unchanged since I raised it.
Additional tests observation
Propagate queue persistence failures
[RULE] swallowed-persistence-error
Still open from the earlier revision: write only logs when the temp-write or rename fails, so enqueue reports success and settle has already removed the deletion from the in-memory list. The caller (thread delete, channel forget, connector disconnect) believes the deletion is either done or safely queued, when in fact it is lost — a hard delete the user asked for silently never happens. Return a bool/Result from write and let enqueue/settle keep the entry (or surface the error) when persistence fails.

Do not queue deletion of a shared thread without ownership checks
Still stands: thread_delete forgets by thread_id filter alone. Where the user's memory engine can contain conversation items filed under a thread id the user does not solely own (a shared or imported thread), this deletes another party's reachable items for good. The filter has no ownership scoping beyond the thread id. Unchanged since I raised it.

Invalidate recall packs when erasing scoped events
Still stands: an erasure deletes events, derived layers and index entries for the scope, but nothing in this change invalidates recall packs that were minted from those events (pack_<n> ids handed to /memory/answer), so answers can still be served from a cached pack holding erased content — the exact GDPR property the erasure exists for. Unchanged since I raised it.

Preserve deletions when writing the queue fails
Still stands: drain settles (removes from the queue) before running the deletion. If the post-settle write fails, or the process stops between settle and run, the deletion is neither queued nor done. Settle-after-success is the order this durability contract wants. Unchanged since I raised it.

Summary
memory_ids(memory-audit 01-F3). Before,thread_deletemade no memory call at all.source:<toolkit>scope holds only this connection's items, it is hard-erased with a scoped erasure (events, derived layers and index entries deleted, write keys released). When the scope is shared with another connection, or the engine cannot erase, it falls back to forget bymemory_ids.redact_events), through the tinymemory bump. Nothing relies on CortexDB'sderived_onlydefault any more, which keeps the memories in place.<workspace>/memory/pending_deletions.json. The queue drains on the next sign-in (CredentialChanged) and on everymemory_backgroundtick.vendor/tinymemoryto fix(cortex): explicit forget cascade and hosted scoped erasure tinymemory#243, which adds the explicit forget cascade and hosted scoped erasure (the hosted driver no longer answersUnsupported).Problem
Spec
memory-scopes.md§7 and memory-audit 02-S1/S7 and 01-F3 found that hosted memory was almost never really deleted:/v1/forgetwas sent without acascade, and the engine's defaultderived_onlyleaves the memories in place.Solution
memory::deletion(new) holds the thread forget, the persisted pending queue (atomic write, deduplicated, unparsable files set aside) anddrain.memory::busregistersmemory::pending_deletionsonauthand also drains from the background job.sources::composio::forget_connection:STORElock so no sync can race itUnsupportedchannels::forget_channel: conversations share the chat node, so there is no channel scope to erase. Each thread is forgotten bymemory_ids. While memory is off, each thread the channel owned at disconnect time is queued as a thread deletion, so a thread the channel brings later is never caught.sources::forget_items(source removal) queues the same way.threads::thread_deleteloads the config once and callsmemory::deletion::forget_thread. A memory failure never fails the delete; it is queued instead.scripts/mock-api/routes/memory.mjs):/memory/forgethonourscascade:derived_onlykeeps the events and an unknown value gets a 400POST/GET /memory/v1/erasuresper the memory-api contractcascadeCross-repo, in order:

Unsupported. Disconnect then falls back to forget bymemory_ids, now with an explicit cascade, so it is still a hard delete.Submission Checklist
