feat(usability): add like button in song card - #310
Track rows (any view using SongCard except artist cards in search) now have a like button right after the ⋮ menu. It toggles Like/Unlike instantly, without starting playback or opening the menu.
Why
Closes#250 Liking a song required opening the ⋮ menu. A heart in the row makes it one click and shows liked status right in the list.
While implementing it I found that rapid likes made the heart flip between states. Root causes in the existing like flow:
load() in useLikedTracks ended with optimisticOverrides.clear(), wiping the optimistic state of tracks whose requests were still in flight.
A library:changed event during an active fetch was dropped (if (request) return request), so the cache stayed stale.
Every successful mutation fired its own library:changed, causing N refetches.
Rollback restored a stale prev value (like → unlike, both fail → true is restored).
Like and unlike of the same track could reach the server out of order.
How
Heart button
Like button holds the hooks, the click handler and an accessible label/title (common.like / common.unlike). It stops propagation, so playback and the menu are not triggered.
SongCard.tsx renders it for rows, except isArtist rows. The root onKeyDown now ignores keys that did not originate on the row itself, so Enter/Space on the heart (or ⋮) no longer start playback.
useIsTrackLiked.ts builds one shared Set of ids per tracks array instead of calling .some() in every row.
Rapid clicks
optimisticLikes.ts (applyOptimisticLike/Unlike) keeps per-track liked (last user intent), pending (mutations in flight) and settledSeq. settleOptimistic replaces rollback: on failure with nothing else pending the override is dropped and the UI falls back to server state. reconcileOverrides(startSeq) removes an override only if nothing is pending and the mutation settled before the fetch started, because only that response is guaranteed to include it.
useLikedTracks.ts snapshots currentSettleSeq() before fetching and reconciles instead of clearing. A forced reload requested during an active fetch is queued and re-run afterwards.
mutationQueue.ts holds the in-flight counter, one debounced (300 ms) notifyLibraryChanged() after the last mutation, and a per-track serial queue so like/unlike keep their order.
useLikeTrack.ts / useUnlikeTrack.ts are thin wrappers over a shared useTrackMutation.ts (React state only); the orchestration lives in runTrackMutation.ts with no React dependency. isPending is now a counter.
buildLikedView.ts (extracted buildView), fetchLikedTracks.ts (extracted paging) are split out to keep files short.
Account binding
accountScope.ts ties work to the account id from getAuthSession().user.id, with one AbortController per account. It is switched on auth:changed and lazily on every check, so listener order does not matter. Token refreshes for the same account do not cancel anything.
Every mutation captures its scope. Queued work re-checks it right before calling the API, and in-flight work stops being awaited as soon as the account changes (StaleSessionError). mutate swallows that error; mutateAsync still rejects with it.
Overrides remember the scope they belong to. A stale completion cannot touch another account's override, and all overrides are cleared on account change.
useLikedTracks resets its cache on account change; fetchLikedTracks stops paging and discards a response that arrives after the change, then refetches for the new account.
src/shared/api: likeTrack / unlikeTrack accept { signal }, call signal.throwIfAborted() after the catalog await and pass the signal to request, which already supports init.signal.
Other
useLibraryMutations.ts now only holds playlist mutations; its Options type with any is replaced by MutateOptions<R>.
applyOptimistic* no longer return a rollback function and take the account scope as the second argument.
library:changed after like/unlike is sent once, 300 ms after the last request finishes, instead of after each one.
The existing menu action stays available.
Testing
pnpm exec tsc -b passed
pnpm test - 805 passed
New unit tests (vitest, 11 cases):
accountScope.test.ts: verify session isolation and state management during account switches: cancellation of queued and in-flight work upon a new user sign-in; prevention of old work resuming after signing back in as the same account; proper triggering of abort signals and rejection of mutations initiated while signed out, while allowing normal mutations for subsequent accounts. Additionally, they ensure data safety across concurrent states: stale completions do not overwrite a new account's track override, unsettled overrides are dropped on account changes, token refreshes keep active work alive, and like/unlike actions for a single track remain strictly ordered.
fetchLikedTracks.test.ts: all pages are returned while the account stays the same; the page is dropped and paging stops once the account changed.

New Features
Added like and unlike controls to track cards, with the liked state shown on the card. Artist cards and local tracks do not display the like control.
Like and unlike updates appear immediately, and repeated changes to the same track are processed in order.
Bug Fixes
A forced refresh requested during an active library load now runs after that load finishes.
Account changes no longer allow outdated like updates or library results to affect the newly active account.
The change adds account-scoped like mutations and liked-track state, including cancellation and per-track ordering. It updates liked-track fetching and lookup, moves like hooks to dedicated modules, and adds a conditional heart control to song cards.
Account changes abort prior scopes. Mutations are serialized by track ID, and optimistic overrides are associated with their account scope.
Liked-track loading and reconciliation src/features/library/hooks/likes/buildLikedView.ts, src/features/library/hooks/likes/fetchLikedTracks.ts, src/features/library/hooks/likes/fetchLikedTracks.test.ts, src/features/library/hooks/useLikedTracks.ts, src/features/library/hooks/useLikedTracks.test.tsx, src/features/library/hooks/useIsTrackLiked.ts
Liked-track loading uses paginated fetching and account-scope checks. The hook reconciles optimistic overrides, resets on account changes, and builds its view from cached tracks and overrides. Track lookup caches IDs by tracks-array identity.
Mutation API and hook wiring src/shared/api/api.ts, src/features/library/hooks/useLibraryMutations.ts, src/features/library/hooks/index.ts, src/features/overlay/hooks/useOverlaySync.ts, src/features/player/hooks/useSongMenuItems.tsx, src/features/player/ui/FullscreenTrackInfo.tsx, src/features/player/ui/MiniPlayer.tsx, src/features/touchbar/hooks/useTouchBarSync.ts, src/features/player/engine/playerEngine.ts
Like API calls accept abort signals. Like hooks move to dedicated modules, and exports and imports are updated. The lyrics fallback formatting changes without changing its condition or message.
Song-card like control src/features/player/ui/SongCard.tsx, src/features/player/ui/SongCardWithMenu.tsx, src/features/search/ui/SearchHistoryList.tsx, src/features/search/ui/SearchResultsList.tsx
Eligible song cards render a heart control that toggles like state. Search lists pass artist classification through to the cards.

Merge Risk: Moderate · up to 7a4ef
A session missing user data could break liked-track loading and like actions. Guard that failure path before merging; the previously reported heart-button issues are fixed.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to 7a4ef
The change strengthens account isolation and mutation ordering while reusing existing account-level permissions. No introduced security defect was established. Remaining uncertainty concerns account switching during token refresh and cancellation of older reads.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
observed — The added interaction supplies a track ID, not a target account. Writes use the existing bearer-authenticated /v1/me/library/tracks endpoint, with the track ID encoded into the path. Server-side authorization was not inspected.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — Account scope is derived from the authenticated session rather than card input. A missing account prevents mutation initiation, account changes reject stale queued work, and signal matching prevents an old completion from settling a new account's optimistic override. These are client ownership controls, not server authorization or rollback of an already accepted write.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
inferred — Stale-read containment is stronger than cancellation: old-account pages are discarded, but a new-account reload waits for the active read to settle. The existing fetch timeout limits response arrival, not the complete refresh and body-reading lifecycle. This leaves a recovery limitation rather than an established new cross-account disclosure.
Hardening Proposals
proposed — Extend account ownership through the full transport lifecycle: guard refresh completion against a changed session generation, make liked reads independently cancellable, and verify old-refresh/new-login overlap using the real transport. These are hardening proposals, not introduced findings.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue [#250] requires a heart control beside track actions, direct Like/Unlike behavior, visible liked state, keyboard access, and an accessible label or tooltip. SongCard.tsx renders the heart after the menu for eligible rows, uses aria-label, aria-pressed, and title, and uses filled or outlined heart styling. The click handler stops propagation before the mutation. SongCardWithMenu.tsx excludes artist search cards and local tracks. The optimistic mutation and liked-track cache changes provide immediate state updates and cross-view refresh support. The native button remains keyboard accessible.

⚠️Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Extract the duplicated mutation lifecycle shared with useUnlikeTrack.
useLikeTrack and useUnlikeTrack are identical except for the optimistic-apply function and the API call. Both must keep the same order of beginLibraryMutation, applyOptimistic*, runSerial, settleOptimistic and endLibraryMutation. The optimistic-state protocol relies on that order. If the two copies diverge, the like state and the library:changed debounce can break.
Move the shared body into one internal hook, for example useTrackLikeMutation(apply, call). Make useLikeTrack and useUnlikeTrack thin wrappers around it.

Give the heart button an accessible name and stop keyboard events from reaching the card.
The button contains only an icon and has no accessible name. Screen readers cannot identify it. Issue #250 asks for an accessible label or tooltip. common.like and common.unlike already exist, and FullscreenTrackInfo uses them.
The parent div has role="button" and an onKeyDown handler that calls event.preventDefault() and onPlay() for Enter and Space. Key events from the heart button bubble to that handler. A keyboard user who presses Enter on the heart starts playback. The native click that would toggle the like is blocked. onClick calls stopPropagation, but nothing does this for keydown.
Button extends ButtonHTMLAttributes, so it accepts these props. Confirm that it forwards them to the DOM element.

Hide the heart for rows that are not likeable cloud tracks.
isArtist is the only guard for the heart in SongCard. SearchResultsList and SearchHistoryList render albums and playlists through SongCardWithMenu with id set to the album or playlist ID. For those rows isArtist is false, so the heart appears. Clicking it calls api.likeTrack(<albumId>). The optimistic override also adds a blank placeholder track to Liked Songs through buildView until the request fails.
The same happens for local tracks. useSongMenuItems removes like-track and unlike-track for them through CLOUD_ONLY_ITEMS. FullscreenTrackInfo hides the button when isLocal is true. SongCard shows the heart anyway.
Compute likeability here, where searchType and isLocalTrackId are in scope. Pass it to SongCard.

Import like hooks through the library slice index.
useOverlaySync.ts bypasses the usable @/features/library entry point with deep imports. Use the slice index instead.

mutationQueue.ts imports notifyLibraryChanged from ../usePlaylists.ts, so the mock at line 24 does not intercept the binding used by these tests. Remove the unused mock.
The Vitest environment is jsdom, so the reported non-DOM ReferenceError is not a consequence here. Fake timers or retargeting are not required for that reason.

Split this file to stay within the 150-line limit.
The file has 219 lines. Move the "settling like/unlike work across account changes" block into a second test file. Move flush, deferred, signIn and setup into a shared test helper.
As per path instructions: "No file over 150 lines. Suggest splitting into components, hooks or utilities."

Guard user before reading user.id in currentAccountId.
currentAccountId reads user.id after the optional chain guards only the session. If a stored or bridged session has no user, this line throws a TypeError. The exception then reaches sync() and every caller that uses it. Use optional chaining on user so a session without a user returns null, the same result as a signed-out state.

Remove as unknown as from the page helper.
The page helper casts to LikedPage through unknown. The project rules forbid this pattern. The cast also hides any mismatch between the stub and the real ApiLikedTracksPage shape.
Build a typed fixture instead. For example, add a typed stubApiTrack(id) factory that returns the item track type with its required fields. Then build items from it and return LikedPage without a cast.
As per path instructions: "No any, no as unknown as".

Move the "across account changes" block to its own file.
This test file is now over 150 lines. Move this block to useLikedTracks.account.test.tsx. Share the helpers (page, signIn, switchTo, settle) through a small test utility module.
As per path instructions: "No file over 150 lines. Suggest splitting into components, hooks or utilities."

What
Track rows (any view using
SongCardexcept artist cards in search) now have a like button right after the ⋮ menu. It toggles Like/Unlike instantly, without starting playback or opening the menu. Why
Closes #250 Liking a song required opening the ⋮ menu. A heart in the row makes it one click and shows liked status right in the list.
While implementing it I found that rapid likes made the heart flip between states. Root causes in the existing like flow:
load()inuseLikedTracksended withoptimisticOverrides.clear(), wiping the optimistic state of tracks whose requests were still in flight.library:changedevent during an active fetch was dropped (if (request) return request), so the cache stayed stale.library:changed, causing N refetches.prevvalue (like → unlike, both fail →trueis restored). How
Heart button
common.like/common.unlike). It stops propagation, so playback and the menu are not triggered.SongCard.tsxrenders it for rows, exceptisArtistrows. The rootonKeyDownnow ignores keys that did not originate on the row itself, so Enter/Space on the heart (or ⋮) no longer start playback.useIsTrackLiked.tsbuilds one sharedSetof ids per tracks array instead of calling.some()in every row.Rapid clicks
optimisticLikes.ts(applyOptimisticLike/Unlike) keeps per-trackliked(last user intent),pending(mutations in flight) andsettledSeq.settleOptimisticreplaces rollback: on failure with nothing else pending the override is dropped and the UI falls back to server state.reconcileOverrides(startSeq)removes an override only if nothing is pending and the mutation settled before the fetch started, because only that response is guaranteed to include it.useLikedTracks.tssnapshotscurrentSettleSeq()before fetching and reconciles instead of clearing. A forced reload requested during an active fetch is queued and re-run afterwards.mutationQueue.tsholds the in-flight counter, one debounced (300 ms)notifyLibraryChanged()after the last mutation, and a per-track serial queue so like/unlike keep their order.useLikeTrack.ts/useUnlikeTrack.tsare thin wrappers over a shareduseTrackMutation.ts(React state only); the orchestration lives inrunTrackMutation.tswith no React dependency.isPendingis now a counter.buildLikedView.ts(extractedbuildView),fetchLikedTracks.ts(extracted paging) are split out to keep files short.Account binding
accountScope.tsties work to the account id fromgetAuthSession().user.id, with oneAbortControllerper account. It is switched onauth:changedand lazily on every check, so listener order does not matter. Token refreshes for the same account do not cancel anything.StaleSessionError).mutateswallows that error;mutateAsyncstill rejects with it.useLikedTracksresets its cache on account change;fetchLikedTracksstops paging and discards a response that arrives after the change, then refetches for the new account.src/shared/api:likeTrack/unlikeTrackaccept{ signal }, callsignal.throwIfAborted()after the catalog await and pass the signal torequest, which already supportsinit.signal.Other
useLibraryMutations.tsnow only holds playlist mutations; itsOptionstype withanyis replaced byMutateOptions<R>.applyOptimistic*no longer return a rollback function and take the account scope as the second argument.library:changedafter like/unlike is sent once, 300 ms after the last request finishes, instead of after each one.Testing
pnpm exec tsc -bpassedpnpm test- 805 passedNew unit tests (
vitest, 11 cases):accountScope.test.ts: verify session isolation and state management during account switches: cancellation of queued and in-flight work upon a new user sign-in; prevention of old work resuming after signing back in as the same account; proper triggering of abort signals and rejection of mutations initiated while signed out, while allowing normal mutations for subsequent accounts. Additionally, they ensure data safety across concurrent states: stale completions do not overwrite a new account's track override, unsettled overrides are dropped on account changes, token refreshes keep active work alive, and like/unlike actions for a single track remain strictly ordered.fetchLikedTracks.test.ts: all pages are returned while the account stays the same; the page is dropped and paging stops once the account changed.Screenshots n recs
