Let an EVM event match by a configured topic0 - #1706
moose-code wants to merge 2 commits into
Conversation
Anonymous events don't carry a signature hash in topic0, so HyperIndex can't match them. An optional `topic0` on an event in config.yaml now replaces the computed hash. That covers anonymous events with a fixed first topic, such as DSNote's LogNote. Refs #990 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Handle anonymous ABI events when topic0 overrides the selector.
A named LogNote ABI event has four indexed parameters and emits four topics. The current registration starts topicCount at 1 and adds one for each indexed parameter, so it expects five topics. Routing rejects the actual four-topic log before decoding. The decoder also passes the configured value as Some(B256::from(sighash)), treating it as a signature topic.
The current EventTopic0_test uses an inline non-anonymous signature with only three indexed parameters, so it does not cover this case. Carry the anonymous-event layout into runtime registration and use an anonymous decoder with the indexed count, or reject topic0 for named anonymous ABI events with an actionable error.

Implemented in #1769 |
HyperIndex matches an EVM event by the keccak256 hash of its signature. Anonymous events don't put that hash in topic0, so they can't be indexed today. This PR adds an optional
topic0to an event inconfig.yaml. When set, it replaces the computed hash. That covers anonymous events whose first topic is fixed. The common case is DSNote's
LogNote, which Maker-style contracts emit from anotemodifier with the called function's selector in topic0:The signature leaves out LogNote's first indexed param (
bytes4 indexed sig), because that param is the topic0 itself. Each function's notes can be declared as a separate event with its ownnameandtopic0.How it works
The HyperSync query, routing and decoding (HyperSync and RPC) already take topic0 from the
sighashthe CLI writes to the internal config. The decoder pins topic0 to that value instead of re-deriving it from the signature (the #1285 fix). So the change is config-only:system_config.rsusestopic0when it's set and rejects a value that isn't 32 bytes of hex. The duplicate-event check keys on the samesighash, so events with different topic0s don't collide. Not covered
Anonymous events whose first topic varies, like the 4-indexed-param event in #990. Those need routing and decoding that don't key on topic0, which is the larger change discussed in #990. This PR doesn't close it.
Tests
EventTopic0_testuses the User API with a mock HyperSync server:topic0asks HyperSync for that topic0. A log carrying it routes and decodes to the event, and a log from the same contract with a different topic0 doesn't. Before the change this failed withunknown field topic0.topic0is rejected with a clear error.Locally:
