Release: opt-in analytics + video generation - #739
One release branch for OGAM. Two feature branches are merged with merge commits; conflicts are resolved where each rule lives now. Video joins opt-in analytics.
Merge order: off-grid-ai/shared#68 → off-grid-ai/mobile-pro#94 → this PR. The pro submodule points at mobile-pro#94's head. Desktop side: off-grid-ai/OGAD#215, off-grid-ai/desktop-pro#125.
Conflict resolution (main's behaviour kept, video kept)
Residency: the policy lives in @offgrid/models (shared#68 adds the video resident type). The old local policy file stays deleted.
Search model picker (from the video branch): main replaced the old RAG index with the shared document engine, so the picker now switches the document index. The new choice and the removal of the old model's vectors are one transaction in documents.db; documents re-embed as they are used, keyword search answers meanwhile. (The video branch kept this choice in rag.db; it never shipped, so nothing migrates.)
Chat queue: main's hold and send-now rules (shared takeNextQueued) stay; the queue also waits for a pending video.
Auto Setup: the compact selectable plans and the analytics consent row. The onboarding download steps now follow the session phase in one place.
Generation analytics stays on the tool and fallback paths.
Resolution notes (where one side's code could not be kept as is)
Chat queue (decided, CPTO call): text follows main's shared rule (messages queued in one chat go together, send-now first, as on OGAD and the extension); a queued video-mode prompt is always its own turn, never combined. OGAM#697's "wait while a video is pending" is kept. Test: queuedVideoIsItsOwnTurn.rendered.test.tsx.
Search model picker (OGAM#697): kept, ported onto main's shared document engine (main deleted the old RAG chunk/vector tables and rag/retrieval.ts). Switching re-embeds documents as they are used instead of one blocking rebuild with a progress count. The old engine's 4 tests stay deleted as on main.
Residency policy: main moved it to @offgrid/models; OGAM#697's video type is now there (shared#68).
Auto Setup: a plan no longer changes the model loading mode — OGAM#697's own change, kept; main's test updated.
Pro expiry: lands on the Home tab (OGAM#697), main's comment kept.
Settings: the backend picker sits in General (OGAM#697); main's "Use fastest settings" stays in Text. Main's tests now open General.
Video in analytics (docs/ANALYTICS.md, identical to OGAD's copy)
generation_finished with modality: video, duration_ms, and the backend that ran; OGAD remote video is engine/backend remote. Never the prompt.
feature_used and features_snapshot gain video_generation; new video_setup flow; video pack downloads report model_download_* (a completed pack used to be removed without a finished event).
SD image and video packs report engine sd.cpp.
Other fixes
Android release build: the JS bundle task now runs after prepareVideoRuntime (Gradle refused the release build without the order).
A model that asked for the NPU but ran on the CPU reports zero offloaded layers (typecheck after merge).
Tests: new remoteVideoAnalytics.rendered.test.tsx (OGAD fake at the network boundary, real app above it); main's queue tests restored; settings/Auto Setup tests follow the merged screens.
Checks
CI green on f3a8e6f (ci, SonarCloud, CodeQL, CodeRabbit).
Jest, full suite, --maxWorkers=1, against shared release/analytics-video: 828/828 suites, 8496 tests pass (before main was merged in). CI on the main merge: 831/831 suites, 8509 tests pass; it failed only on the 100% coverage gate for the analytics files, now fixed (video setup funnel and video facts covered; a scrub.ts branch that OGAM#737 also leaves uncovered).
Main merged in (split-GGUF, OGAM#736); needs shared main inside shared's release branch, which shared#68 now has.
Pushed with --no-verify: the pre-push hook's Jest maps @offgrid/* to ../shared, which on this Mac is shared main; the same gates ran by hand against the release shared (above).
Devices (release builds)
iPhone 17 Pro Max: fresh install → analytics off by default (Auto Setup row and Settings toggles). Wan 2.1 (1.3B) downloaded; local video in a video-only chat: 2 s clip in 11 min 35 s (with analytics off), then opted in from Settings and made a second clip (12 min 58 s). Search model switch to MiniLM L12 works.
OnePlus CPH2707: fresh install → analytics off by default. Wan 2.1 via Auto Setup; opted in; local video on the NPU path reached step 12 of 20 (about 1 step a minute), then the phone was unplugged. The finished Android clip is not verified.
OGAD remote video from mobile: not verified yet (deferred by Ali: the OGAD port is held by another dev OGAD on this Mac). No OGAD from the release branch was running on the LAN. It is covered by remoteVideoAnalytics.rendered.test.tsx against OGAD's wire shapes (/v1/videos submit, poll, content).
PostHog-side confirmation of the events (times in UTC): requested from the coordinating session.

Known gaps (follow-ups, not in this PR)
Auto Setup shows 100% for a video pack while its last file is still downloading (Android).
A video model is picked only by its small check icon in Home's Video sheet; tapping the row does nothing.
A video-only chat says "begin chatting with Unknown".
With no text model, every launch opens Auto Setup (main behaviour; a video-only user meets it each time).
The memory guard refuses Wan 2.1 at default clip size on both phones (7.5 GB estimate vs 5 GB budget on iPhone); "Run anyway" works.
It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.
This pull request adds local and remote video generation, video model downloads and playback, Stable Diffusion image support, selectable embedding models, and opt-in analytics and problem reporting. Clear the remote video selection when a refresh fails.
This PR adds video as a remote media category and a Video row. When testConnection fails, refreshModels still clears only image, transcription and voice. A video model on that unreachable server stays selected. The Video row keeps showing it as remote, and video generation targets a server that is down. clearActiveRemoteModel already clears video (see remoteServerManager.test.ts).

🟡 Minor · Include a running video in the "send now" check. · useChatGenerationActions.ts:1180-1182
handleSendFn now queues a send when videoGenerationService.getState().phase === 'running' (Line 1140). sendQueuedNowFn does not check the video phase.
When a user taps "send now" during a video, running is false, so the function calls generationService.drainQueue() without stopping the video. The drained turn then starts in one of two ways:
As a text generation that runs at the same time as the native video worker. This is the memory contention the queue exists to prevent.
As a video turn that rejects with "Video generation is already running."
Apply the same video check here, so "send now" stops the video first.

Guard nullable strings before constructing offgrid::VideoRequest.
A missing key returns nil, so [nil UTF8String] returns NULL. VideoRequest stores these values in std::string fields. Passing NULL to those constructors is undefined behavior and can terminate the process. The try block can catch a thrown standard-library exception, but it cannot make this invalid construction safe.

curl -C - resumes from the existing hexagon-sdk.tar.xz. If a download is truncated or corrupted, shasum -c fails and set -e stops the script, but the bad archive remains. The next build resumes from the same corrupt bytes, so the checksum fails on every later run. The developer must find and delete the file by hand. Remove the archive before the script exits on a checksum failure.

Check the item kind instead of the position plan.items[3].
!plan.items[3] assumes video is always the fourth plan item. A plan with fewer items before video changes the result. For example, a device can get no speech candidate. Then a plan that includes video hides the video row. A plan without video but with an extra item does not show the exclusion reason. labelForItem already decides by item.kind, so use the same rule here.

executeDeleteConversationFn removes video records before RNFS.unlink and ignores unlink failures. A failed unlink can therefore leave an MP4 without its Gallery record. ChatsListScreen and deleteConversationWithAlert both call deleteChatImages before deleting the conversation, but that helper currently cleans only generated images. deleteConversation has no generated-video cleanup hook.
Use videoGenerationService.deleteVideo from deleteChatImages. It removes the file first and removes the record only after the file operation succeeds. Remove the duplicate video cleanup from executeDeleteConversationFn.

The download-failure consent prompt never opens for users who have not opted in.
downloadEnded returns at line 497 when downloads has no entry for the key. downloadStarted stores an entry only when client exists. A client exists only after the user opts in to Usage data or Crash reports. For a user who has not opted in, the early return skips maybePromptAfterFailure() at line 518.
For a user who has opted in, maybePromptAfterFailure() returns at once because optedIn() is true. The call at line 518 therefore never shows a prompt. consentPrompt.ts documents "after a model download ... fails" as a prompt trigger, so this trigger is dead.
Call maybePromptAfterFailure() before the early return. The 30-day throttle in show() already prevents repeated prompts.

Encode each path segment, not the whole file path.
Line 246 uses encodeURIComponent(file.rfilename), so a nested checkpoint dir/model.safetensors becomes dir%2Fmodel.safetensors. resolveSDImageDownloadFiles (line 217) and searchEmbeddingModels (line 340) split on / first. The search URL is used for the header probe and is stored as downloadUrl, so a nested candidate gets a different URL from every other path. There is a second problem: resolveSDImagePack reads only the top-level entries of modelPath. A nested checkpoint downloads in full and then fails with "Select one complete SD checkpoint". Encode per segment, and keep only root-level weights.

In `resolveSDImageDownloadFiles`, restrict checkpoint candidates to root-level
weights so nested files are not downloaded; when constructing `downloadUrl`,
encode each path segment separately while preserving `/` separators. Keep the
resulting URL consistent for the header probe and stored download URL.

Use a distinct native key for each video-pack file.
videoProvider.start creates the aggregate video:<id> row, then passes that same key to every native file download. When a native snapshot is ahead of the aggregate row, hydrateDownloadStore replaces it with the current file row. Because downloadFileTo does not provide combinedTotalBytes, that row uses the current file size and can reach 100% before the pack completes. Subsequent provider updates use video:<id>, which no longer matches the native download ID.
On restart, reconciliation cancels the orphaned native row. addRow then cannot replace the stale entry because downloadStore.add rejects an existing modelKey.
Use a distinct key such as video-file:<id>/<file> for each native file. Exclude these provider-internal rows from hydration and Download Manager data so video:<id> remains the aggregate row. Keep modelId: video:<id> so reconciliation still finds orphaned native downloads.

Drop queued usage events when usage consent is withdrawn.
before_send runs before queue insertion, not again when queued events upload. When usage changes to false while crashes remain true, applyConsent keeps the existing client. Usage events captured before withdrawal can therefore remain in the persistent queue and upload later.
Remove only queued non-crash events on the true-to-false usage transition. Keep the crash queue and client active. Do not call forget() or reset the shared identity for this partial transition; those actions apply to full opt-out.

Make the ram_gb requirement match initialization timing.
The implementation adds ram_gb only after asynchronous memory detection completes. Early events can omit this property, despite the “Properties on every event” rule. Buffer early events or document ram_gb as unavailable during startup.

Minor · Add the app-code file-name exception to the “Never send” file-name rule. · ANALYTICS.md:18
Add the app-code file-name exception to the “Never send” file-name rule.
The “Never send” rule forbids all file names. The $exception row in Crashes permits the app's own code file names, such as index.js. The rule has no reference to that exception, so the two statements conflict. Add the exception to the rule:

The only exception is the app's own code file name in `$exception` events (see Crashes).
Do not remove the exception from the Crashes section. The scrubber keeps app code file names, so that section describes the implemented behavior.

Wait for the video job to finish before the test returns.
The assertion at line 90 passes once Desktop records the POST. The job then needs at least one more poll before it completes. The mock returns running on the first poll and completed on a later poll. The test does not wait for that later poll. afterEach calls desktop.restore(), which puts the original fetch back. A poll that is still pending can then call the real fetch, outside the mock, and the job can remain running after the test ends.
Add a wait after the submission check, for example for videoGenerationService.hasPending() to return false. Wait for the completed video or another idle video state before the test ends.

Generation, model downloads, the OGAD video client and the video screens move to the
private Pro package. Core reaches video through videoSeam (hooks) and slots; without Pro,
the Video tabs and the chat video switch show the upgrade screen and the video tool is not
offered. Saved videos still play and can be deleted. A dependency-cruiser rule stops src/
from importing pro/, so the open-source build compiles with video absent.
…image viewers
A video message can name its film; Pro draws the film card or Continue / New shot / Make it a
story under it. Both image viewers offer Animate when Pro video is on. Analytics spec gains the
video_story funnel and has_init_image; never any prompt text.
…h Pro
The in-chat video card uses the themed card style (surface, radius, small shadow) in light and
dark, like the other chat cards. react-native.config.js autolinks Pro's film module only when
pro/ is checked out, so the open-source build has no video product code. Video tests move to
__tests__/pro with the code they cover. Analytics spec: video_story funnel and the video
generation properties agreed with Off Grid Desktop.
The video engine takes an optional start image (Animate this photo, Continue) on iOS and
Android, and both report supportsInitImage. Android adds sd.cpp's in-process ESRGAN upscaler
(upscaleVideo, supportsUpscale); iOS reports it unsupported because its runtime build does not
export the upscaler yet. A clip inside a film reuses the film's foreground service on Android.
The video tool has a label in chat, and the tools badge counts it only while Pro video is on.
…tart-image commit
70443f0 staged VideoRuntime.hpp with that session's uncommitted CPU/NPU routing change. Only
the start-image fields belong to that commit; the routing change stays in its working tree for
that session to land itself.
…eir story when synced
generate_video takes an optional start_image (the chat's last picture). make_film turns one
sentence into a draft film. Both are offered only while Pro video is on and have labels in chat.
A message record carries video_story_id so a film card syncs as a card.
…nstant DiT output
On the OnePlus (SM8635), the HTP backend returned the same Wan DiT output
(rms 0.0087) for every step, prompt and latent. Sampling therefore kept the
start noise, and the VAE decoded it as colour blobs. The same patched
sd.cpp on CPU drew the clip. Adreno Vulkan crashes in the same graph, so
Wan diffusion on Android now uses CPU; other packs keep the NPU.
Home and Chat show a Search row in the Models card; the model picker has a Search tab. Models →
Search (renamed from Embedding) shows real download progress and deletes unused models, and
search model downloads appear in the Download Manager with Cancel, Retry and Delete. Settings has
one row that opens Models → Search. Storage shows videos and films, search models and the
document index, and deletes a video model pack (free, so storage stays the person's after Pro).
One run measures text as before, measures search (GPU against CPU, used only when the vectors
agree and it is faster), and places video, image, speech and voice by what their engines run on
this phone. It saves each place and shows one summary line. Search loads on the saved place with
a CPU fallback. The video engine follows the saved place in release builds too; on Android the
Wan rule stays (Hexagon gives a constant output and Adreno crashes, so it runs on the CPU).
A film card's story id travels in the shared message context (videoStoryId) instead of a
top-level field. Fastest settings returns the shared ModalityPlacement, now with each
modality's engine.
The iOS video runtime exports the upscaler (new_upscaler_ctx, upscale, free_upscaler_ctx,
get_upscale_factor), and the video module adds upscaleVideo and reports supportsUpscale.
Built and linked into a Release app.
The Speech tab searches Hugging Face (the shared search, by task) and lists only repos with a
whisper GGML file that whisper.rn runs. A model the person downloads joins the catalog on this
phone, so the Speech picker, downloads and Fastest settings see it like a listed model.
