Summary

The v6.1.8 release run (run 37126583689) failed in the Install PHP step before reaching the build:

  • On macos-14, Homebrew has no PHP package ready to install, so brew install php compiles it from source. That takes about 21 minutes.
  • Homebrew's post-install step then updates the pear/pecl channels. DNS lookups for pear.php.net failed, so brew install php exited 1.

This PR replaces that step with shivammathur/setup-php@v2 (PHP 8.3, tools: none). It installs a prebuilt PHP in seconds and doesn't contact pear.php.net. PHP is only needed for the json.php helper used by release.sh.

Testing

  • Workflow YAML parses.
  • This workflow only runs on tag pushes and workflow_dispatch, so it won't run on this PR. To check it, trigger it manually after merging, or re-tag the release.

brew install php now builds from source on macos-14 and its post-install
pear channel update fails when pear.php.net is unreachable, breaking the
release workflow.
