Status: feature complete on dispatch, merged with current main (Windows, v0.11.6 prep). Draft until the version bump and v6 announcement land.

What ships

Breaking: store format v6. A v6 store is refused by older binaries, rollback restores tsk.json.v5.

Merge notes

  • Kept main's v0.11.6 changelog section; dispatch entries sit under Unreleased.
  • Skill bumped to 1.5.0, since main's 1.4.0 ships with v0.11.6.
  • Store persistence tests use a platform-aware v6 fixture, mirroring main's v5 helper.
  • Dispatch unit tests now build exit statuses per platform, so Windows targets compile (checked with clippy --target x86_64-pc-windows-gnu; Windows tests themselves only run in CI here).

Before merge

  • Version bump (Cargo.toml, Cargo.lock, herdr-plugin.toml, site/src/version.mjs), rename Unreleased
  • v6 [[announcement]] in src/announcements/catalog.toml
  • Windows CI green (dispatch has never run there; it refuses outside HERDR_ENV=1 anyway)
  • Live Herdr smoke of dispatch and cleanup against a throwaway repo

Verification

  • cargo fmt --check && cargo clippy --all-targets -- -D warnings && cargo test on macOS: 1334 passed
  • Windows-gnu clippy, all targets: clean
  • site/: npm ci && npm test && npm run build passed

Load agent profiles from agents.toml (T101)
Dispatch a task to its assignee with ctrl+g, herdr only (T103)
Clean up a dispatched task: done pop-up, tsk clean, relaunch (T104)
A leftover prunable worktree whose directory is already gone no longer
fails the whole listing, so board completion still offers cleanup.
Herdr failures report the error message instead of the raw JSON envelope.
Resolve the store v6 docs and tests against the platform-aware v5 helpers,
keep main's v0.11.6 changelog section, bump the unreleased skill to 1.5.0
because main ships 1.4.0, and build dispatch test exit statuses per platform
so the Windows targets compile.

@smarzban smarzban changed the title Assign and dispatch tasks to agents (store v6) Assign and dispatch tasks to agents Sep 22, 2026
Dispatch renders a POSIX $SHELL -lc launch line, which a Windows Herdr
pane cannot run. ctrl+g, the palette, and tsk dispatch now refuse on
Windows with unsupported-platform before any worktree is created, and the
POSIX shell-quoting test runs on Unix only.

The landing tsk add --json sample gains the assignee key the CLI now
emits, and the PTY smoke expects the dispatch peek footer order
(#thread · project).
T148: refuse dispatch on Windows, fix parity, merge main
