Ship the lexicon API on Lexbox, served by FwHeadless - #2857
Exposes the MiniLcm routes on Lexbox under /api/lexicon, forwarded to FwHeadless, which serves them from its CRDT copy of the project (the headless harmony project). Lexbox owns auth and identity; FwHeadless stamps every write with the Lexbox user and the OAuth client, and keeps its copy in step with Lexbox through harmony syncs. Marked experimental in the public v1 OpenAPI document.
Lexbox
New scopes lexiconread / lexiconwrite (LexboxAuthScope.LexiconRead/LexiconWrite). Read routes accept either, or the general lexboxapi scope; write routes accept lexiconwrite or lexboxapi. FW Lite's sendandreceive tokens are not accepted.
GET /api/lexicon/projects: Harmony projects the caller is a member of that FwHeadless holds (id, code, name, role), filtered with one bulk readiness call to FwHeadless.
/api/lexicon/project/{projectId}/...: the MiniLcm route table, forwarded with YARP (Proxies/LexiconProxy.cs). Read policy: can download the project (members, admins and org managers, like CRDT sync). Write policy: Editor Lite, Editor or Manager (same roles as media uploads). Unknown project ids pass auth so FwHeadless answers 404 rather than 403.
The forward drops the caller's Authorization/Cookie, a jwt query parameter and any caller-supplied identity headers, then sets X-Lexbox-User-Id, X-Lexbox-User-Name (percent-encoded UTF-8) and X-Lexbox-Client-Id (the token's client_id claim, or lexbox for cookie/JWT sessions).
The gridifyFilter parameter's OpenAPI description now documents the filter syntax and lists every filterable field, read from EntryFilter's mapper (MiniLcmWeb/GridifyFilterDocs.cs), on FwLiteWeb, FwHeadless and Lexbox.
Every lexicon route has an OpenAPI summary and description of what it does (MiniLcmWeb/MiniLcmRouteDocs.cs, shared by all three hosts), followed by the experimental note; search is described too.
role in the project listing is sent as the role name, and the public schema now describes ProjectRole as a string enum (this also corrects the existing FieldWorksLiteProject.role, which was documented as an integer but sent as a name).
Every forwarded route declares its parameters and Produces<T>/Accepts<T>, so openapi/public.yaml carries the MiniLcm schemas. Internal MiniLcm properties (Order, some ids) are left out, and the web API also ignores them in request bodies (AddMiniLcmJsonOptions in MiniLcmWeb, shared by all three hosts). LexBoxApi now references MiniLcmWeb (for UpdateEntryRequest and the query options, now public).
Seeds four native public OAuth clients copied from the FieldWorks Lite descriptor: lexicon-site-generator, lexicon-viewer, lexicon-mcp-server (read) and lexicon-lift-tool (read and write), loopback redirects http://localhost/oauth-callback and http://127.0.0.1/oauth-callback. The consent page describes the lexiconread and lexiconwrite scopes.
Scope matching (pre-existing)
LexAuthUser.HasScope matched scope names as substrings, so a scope containing another's name passed its checks (e.g. a sendandreceiverefresh token passed sendandreceive checks, and an unrelated scope containing lexiconwrite would pass the write policy). It now matches whole space-delimited scopes. FieldWorks only uses its refresh token on getProjectToken, which requires the refresh scope itself.
FwHeadless
Maps MiniLcmWeb under /api/lexicon/project/{projectId} with a resolver that opens the headless harmony project by id: 404 problem for an unknown project, 409 /problems/project-not-ready when there is no CRDT file or its first merge hasn't finished, 409 /problems/sync-in-progress for writes while a merge is queued or running. Writes go through the user-facing validation wrappers; validation errors return 400 and missing items 404. The ?projectId= middleware skips these routes.
Write filter: 401 without the three identity headers; otherwise opens CommitMetadataInterceptor.Intercept setting AuthorId, AuthorName and ExtraMetadata["OAuthClientId"], then schedules a harmony sync.
POST /api/lexicon/projects/ready (body: project ids) returns the ids that are ready, as above.
HarmonySyncScheduler (new hosted service): 5 s trailing debounce per project, then CrdtSyncService.SyncHarmonyProject in a fresh scope (not SyncWorker or the sync-harmony route); exponential backoff capped at 5 min on failure; pending syncs dropped while a merge is queued or running, and a project that dropped one is synced again on the first scan (each minute) after the merge; every project synced once per 24 h at a random offset; no sync on startup or reconnect. Like the merge, it skips projects that are blocked from syncing or whose first merge hasn't finished, and requests that waited out a running sync trigger one more sync, not one each.
LexboxProjectChangeListener: SignalR client on /api/hub/crdt/project-changes, authenticated by the existing service-account cookie handler, subscribed to every headless harmony project on disk (rescanned each minute, so projects the merge creates later are picked up), resubscribed after reconnect. It clears the cached Lexbox health verdict on connect and reconnect, so a brief outage doesn't block syncs and merges for 30 minutes. Notifications carrying the project's own client id are ignored. Uses SSE/long polling because only those transports go through the cookie-adding handler pipeline. A cross-reference comment links it to FW Lite's LexboxHubConnection.
Authorship
LcmCrdtConfig.DefaultAuthorForCommits is replaced by RequireCommitAuthor (FwHeadless sets it): HarmonyChangeWriter refuses a commit with neither author name nor id. FW Lite is unaffected (off by default, as local projects have no author).
SyncWorker.ExecuteSync stamps AuthorName = CommitHelpers.FieldWorksAuthorName ("FieldWorks") explicitly; SnapshotAtCommitService uses the same constant and the viewer mirrors it. No other merge code changed.
Known gaps
FwHeadless trusts the X-Lexbox-* headers and has no auth on /api/lexicon (same trust as /api/media): it must stay reachable only from Lexbox.
Commits pushed to Lexbox while the listener is disconnected (or FwHeadless is restarting) wait for the daily sweep, since there is no sync on reconnect yet.
A merge doesn't wait for a harmony sync or a lexicon write already in flight. One landing between the merge's CRDT sync and its snapshot regeneration could be read as a FieldWorks deletion by the next merge. The merge spends its first seconds to minutes on send/receive before it reads the CRDT, so the overlap is unlikely; closing it needs a per-project gate that merges take exclusively, which touches merge code.
task check-generated (public OpenAPI and GraphQL schema regenerated)
LcmCrdt.Tests: OpenProjectTests (new RequireCommitAuthorRefusesCommitsWithNoAuthor), HistoryServiceActivityTests, SnapshotAtCommitServiceTests: 40 passed
Review pass on the FwHeadless/LcmCrdt changes (no path writes a commit without an author; fixed: re-sync after a merge drops one, no sync after a refused write)
Testing: HarmonySyncSchedulerTests, ProjectFolderTests, GridifyFilterDocsTests, SyncWorkerTests, LexAuthUserTests and other auth/scope unit tests
MiniLcm.Tests: SerializationTests (new ApiModifiersIgnoreInternalPropertiesInRequestBodies)
Local stack, curl through Lexbox: list projects, read entries, create/update/delete an entry
The write shows up in Lexbox's CRDT commits within seconds, with the user as author and OAuthClientId in its metadata
A commit pushed to Lexbox by FW Lite reaches the headless harmony project without a merge
A write while a merge is queued or running gets 409 sync-in-progress
OAuth token from one of the seeded clients: confirm the client_id claim reaches the X-Lexbox-Client-Id header (else it falls back to lexbox)

Walkthrough
This change adds Lexicon routes to FwHeadless and LexBox, with project readiness checks, access policies, and request forwarding. It adds a Harmony sync scheduler and a SignalR listener for Lexbox project changes. It also adds a setting that rejects commits without author metadata and stamps sync commits with the FieldWorks author. The OpenAPI document and OAuth scopes now include Lexicon operations.
sillsdev/languageforge-lexbox#2842 describes a follow-on idea that depends on the Lexicon API and refers to the write path added here. The issue summary states that the idea is not part of this effort.

Lexbox forwards /api/lexicon/project/{projectId} to FwHeadless, which maps
the MiniLcmWeb routes over its headless harmony project. Lexbox checks the
new lexiconread/lexiconwrite scopes and project roles, lists ready projects,
and passes the caller's identity as X-Lexbox-* headers that FwHeadless stamps
on each write. A new HarmonySyncScheduler pushes after writes and pulls on
CrdtProjectChangeHub notifications, standing down during a merge.
FwHeadless now requires an author on every commit; the merge stamps
"FieldWorks" explicitly. Seeds four lexicon prototype OAuth clients.

The gridifyFilter query parameter was a bare string, so API clients had
to read the C# filter map to know what they could filter on. Its OpenAPI
description now covers the operators, escaping and writing-system
fields, and lists every filterable field read from EntryFilter's mapper,
so the list cannot drift. Applied in MiniLcmWeb (FwLiteWeb, FwHeadless)
and on Lexbox's forwarded read routes.

…actly
Review of the public OpenAPI schema found that every lexicon operation
was described only as experimental. Each MiniLcm route now has a summary
and description (shared by FwLiteWeb, FwHeadless and Lexbox), and the
search parameter is described. The lexicon project listing sent role as
a number; it now sends the role name, and the public schema describes
ProjectRole as a string enum, which also corrects FieldWorksLiteProject.
HasScope matched scope names as substrings, so a scope containing
another's name passed its checks (e.g. sendandreceiverefresh passed
sendandreceive). It now matches whole space-delimited scopes.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
AddMiniLcmJsonOptions replaces the copies in FwLiteWeb and FwHeadless. Internal properties (Order, ComplexFormComponent/WritingSystem Id) are now also ignored in request bodies, so the OpenAPI schema stops listing them. The sync serializers are unchanged.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A rename on one side used to compile and silently break writes, FieldWorks-commit detection or the hub connection.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The caller's token no longer reaches FwHeadless in the URL. The public schema now uses the MiniLcm API JSON options, so internal properties are gone from it.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Same as CRDT sync: members, admins and org managers. The project-exists query now runs only when access is denied.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…00/404
A project is ready once its first merge finished, not when the CRDT file exists, so a half-imported project is never served or pushed. Writes go through the user-facing validation wrappers, and validation or not-found errors no longer come back as 500.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Requests that waited out a running sync trigger one more sync, not one each. The listener clears the cached Lexbox health verdict when it connects, so a brief outage no longer blocks syncs and merges for 30 minutes.

…eadless ingress (#2877)
Follow-ups from the review of #2857, for the gaps that could lose data or let in-cluster traffic act as any user.
- FwHeadless answers 409 /problems/sync-blocked to a lexicon write while the project is blocked from syncing. A blocked project doesn't harmony-sync, so the write would sit only in the headless copy and could be lost when the block is resolved, after the client was told it succeeded. Reads still work.
- regenerate-snapshot requires commitId, on Lexbox and FwHeadless. Without it the snapshot (the merge base) came from the live headless CRDT copy, which since #2857 also takes harmony syncs and lexicon writes, so a regenerate could capture entries FieldWorks has never seen and the next merge would delete them as FieldWorks deletions.
- ProjectMetadataService writes metadata.json to a temp file and renames it into place, and is registered as a singleton so its lock is shared across requests and the sync worker. An unreadable file reads as "not blocked", so a truncated write could have let a racing lexicon write through.
- NetworkPolicy for fw-headless: only app: lexbox pods in its own namespace may reach it. FwHeadless trusts the X-Lexbox-* identity headers and has no auth of its own. No namespaceSelector, because staging and develop share a cluster and each lexbox calls its own fw-headless.
- Tests: LexiconApiTests (integration: roles, 403 and 404, send/receive token refused, blocked write gets the 409) and LexiconProxyTests (the forwarded request drops the caller's Authorization, Cookie and jwt and replaces caller-supplied identity headers).
Not covered: the merge still doesn't wait for a harmony sync or lexicon write already in flight. #2512 closes that window.
